Liverpool vs Norwich: 5 Things the Canaries Need to Win at Anfield
Liverpool and Norwich will meet on Saturday in front of the Sky cameras. Liverpool will go into the game, of course, as the red-hot favourites, but Norwich will be looking to spoil the party. The Canaries have been in good form lately with wins against Bolton, Sunderland, and Swansea.
The newly promoted side also earned plaudits for their performance at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Liverpool will need to be on their guard to ensure the Canaries do not pull off a shock result this weekend.
So with that in mind, I have compiled a slideshow of five things that the Canaries will need to win at Anfield.
Have a Go (go on the Attack)
1 of 5Most newly promoted sides would go into the game against Liverpool looking to hold on to a draw. However, Paul Lambert showed at Old Trafford and at Stamford Bridge that he will use a fearless approach for these games.
Of course, Norwich will spend a large amount of the game defending, but they will also get chances to attack on the break. The attacking trio of Wes Hoolahan, Elliott Bennett and Anthony Pilkington will cause most Premier League teams trouble this season. Liverpool are no exception to this.
Be Organized, Close Down Opposition (defend as a Team)
2 of 5As previously mentioned, Norwich will have their fair share of defending to do on Saturday. During Norwich's recent good form, they have defended well and closed down the opposition quickly. This is something that the team must continue if they are to be successful on Saturday.
Norwich must ensure that Liverpool's best attacking players are not given the space that they desire. This will be a team effort and not purely a task for the back four. This may mean that Steve Morison needs to get back and head clear from his own penalty box, this may also mean that Eliott Bennett needs to execute a superb sliding tackle in his own penalty area, as he did against Swansea.
Take Their Chances
3 of 5Norwich produced a fantastic performance against Manchester United. However, some people in the media criticized Norwich for failing to take their chances. Anthony Pilkington was particularly guilty on that afternoon at Old Trafford.
At Anfield on Saturday Norwich must ensure they take any chances that come that way. Pilkington proved his ability to score Premier League goals with a brace on Saturday against Swansea.
Norwich will know that you have to be clinical in the Premier League level. Failure to do so, can result in being punished. On Saturday, we will learn how much they have learned from Manchester United.
Ride Their Luck
4 of 5It stands to reason that Liverpool are likely to dominate the game against Norwich. Therefore, if Norwich are going to get a result this weekend then they will need to ride their luck at times. Luck plays a part in most football matches, and this is especially true when so-called under-dogs get results against the so-called bigger clubs.
Liverpool will certainly get chances at Anfield and Norwich must hope that lady luck is on their side and not Liverpool's.
John Ruddy and the Back Four Need to Play Well
5 of 5John Ruddy and the Norwich City back-four featuring Marc Tierney, Leon Barnett, Russell Martin and Kyle Naughton, has been in excellent form in recent games. Many successful teams are built on a settled back-four and Paul Lambert will be pleased that he is starting to see that.
Of course, the defence will have to perform well again at the weekend. Anything that beats the defence will need to be stopped by John Ruddy. Norwich must keep it tight and solid early on if they have a chance in this game.
