BCS Rankings: Oregon Ducks and Best One Loss National Championship Contenders
If there are two undefeated teams at the end of the season, they should, and probably will, meet in the BCS National Championship Game.
But that doesn't always happen.
Right now, we're not exactly experiencing a shortage of undefeated teams. But while there are plenty right now, it won't stay that way.
Look at the top four of LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.
All four are undefeated, but LSU and Alabama play each other, as do Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
But for now, let's look at teams that have already experienced a loss. Which of those teams has the best chance at getting to the National Championship Game?
Oregon Ducks
Granted, a lot would need to happen here. Voters would not want to set up a regular season rematch against LSU, and they make up two-thirds of the BCS.
Oregon would probably need to run the table, and LSU would need to lose two games. But given the schedule, that's not impossible.
Oregon was just in the National Championship Game last year and have looked really impressive since losing to LSU in Week 1.
It might seem like a long shot, but Oregon's chances are as good as any team who's already lost.
Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans' problem is they have a rather convincing loss on their hands to a currently unranked opponent.
But that opponent was Notre Dame, who could well be ranked by season's end. Plus, that game was in South Bend.
Just about every one-loss team has already taken a rather convincing loss, so the Spartans aren't alone in that regard.
Michigan State will be tested in their next two games, which are against Wisconsin and Nebraska. If they can win those, their schedule to the conference championship game is relatively clear.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas has a similar problem to Oregon.
Their one loss came against Alabama, so they will need some help to get back into the picture.
Still, at No. 9, they are the highest seeded one-loss team, so they really have to be mentioned.
There are still opportunities on the schedule for Arkansas to prove their worth. It might seem like a long shot at this point, but don't completely count them out.
