BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

There are plenty of implications as these two top 25 teams meet. Stanford has a lot to prove if they want to move up in the charts.

There is nothing but undefeated teams in front of them, and they have all had a harder schedule. Stanford is going to have to win this one big if they want to pick up any extra votes.

If the Huskies can pull off the upset, they will take a huge jump in the rankings and be in a prime position to make a Rose Bowl run.

Key Storyline: How will Stanford look in their first game against a ranked team?

We just touched on this, but it is worth further explanation. Stanford has been winning comfortable and easily, but that has come against teams that don't pose much of a threat.

The Huskies have a dynamic offense and should be able to put up some points. While Stanford has a calm and proven leader in Andrew Luck, he is surrounded by youth. It will be interesting to see how they rise to the challenge.

What They're Saying: STATS Senior Writer Santosh Venkataraman talks about the amazing QB matchup this game provides.

"

"While Stanford's Andrew Luck may be considered the Heisman Trophy front-runner, Washington's Keith Price is making a name for himself with the second-most touchdown passes in the country.

The Pac-12's two highest-rated passers will be on display Saturday night as Luck and the seventh-ranked Cardinal try to extend the nation's longest win streak to 15 games when they host Price's No. 22 Huskies.

Luck is putting together another terrific season with a 71.3 completion percentage, 18 touchdowns, three interceptions and 1,719 yards. The 2010 Heisman runner-up was named the conference's player of the week after throwing for four second-half touchdowns in last Saturday's 44-14 victory at Washington State.

While Luck ranks third nationally with a 180.6 passer rating, Price is fifth at 177.9 as he's guided Washington (5-1, 3-0) to its best start in 10 years. The sophomore has 21 TDs and four interceptions in his first season as a full-time starter, and the Huskies have won three straight to join the AP Top 25 for the first time since September 2009."

Player to Watch for Washington: Keith Price

Price is quietly having a season almost equal to Luck's. That is not to bad for a sophomore in his first year of starting.

Price is tall and athletic. He is decent on the move, but it is as a pure passer where he does his damage. This kid has an NFL arm, and he displays it often.

He is also making some great decisions. Price has 20 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Player to Watch for Stanford: Andrew Luck

There is really nothing to say about Luck that hasn't already been said. He is the nation's premier QB and could start on some NFL teams right now.

Watching Luck for a game is like watching a QB clinic. This kid does everything right.

Key Matchup: Andrew Luck vs. Washington's Secondary

The Huskies secondary has been the weakness of this team. Teams have been able to throw the ball on them almost at will.

That said, they have shown some improvement in their last two wins against Utah and Colorado. They are going to face a tough task in this one.

They will not be able to stop Luck—no one can—but they must limit the amount of big plays they give up. And when they have the opportunity to get Stanford off the field, they have to make the play.

Prediction: Stanford 42, Washington 31

Stanford is going to have a hard time covering the spread in this one. The Huskies offense is too good. They will be able to outscore, but expect their defense to struggle against this impressive and balanced offense.
