BCS Rankings 2011: BCS Snubs Who Will Join Rankings After Week 8

Kyle VassaloOct 18, 2011

There are BCS snubs sitting outside of the rankings who won't have to wait more than a week to jump into the Top 25. Just because they find themselves on the outside looking in doesn't mean they are doomed to stay there.

With winnable games lying in front of them, these teams are bound to crack the Top 25 when pretenders who fooled everyone slip out of the rankings.

Here are three BCS snubs who will join the rankings after Week 8.

Arizona State

Arizona State is right on the brink of the top 25. They just suffered a painful loss to Oregon, but they have a gimme game against the 1-6 Colorado Buffaloes this week. They're a two-loss team, but they've got a great chance at running the table from here on out.

With the Pac-12 South all but in the bag, quarterback Brock Osweiler should be able to take the Sun Devils to the Pac-12 championship and a 10-win season. They're one of the best 25 teams in the nation, and the polls will reflect after this week.

Georgia

Georgia started out the season in an 0-2 hole, but has taken steps every week towards legitimacy. They don't have a shot at winning the SEC, but they're still a worthy competitor. They have won five straight, and with a three home game stretch lying ahead on their schedule, they've got a great shot at increasing their stock even further.

Their next matchup is against Florida in Jacksonville, FL, and a victory wouldn't leave us questioning whether or not they were going to break into the rankings, but how high they would climb. This week they may be able to sneak into the rankings by taking the spot of a falling pretender.

SMU

Baylor takes on Oklahoma State and Notre Dame plays USC. Winning this week would allow either one of those teams to jump into the rankings, but a loss is more than likely on the way. Their losses will be SMU's gain.

SMU is a team literally nobody is talking about. They are getting no love, but eventually people are going to have to start taking notice. With five wins and a loss to only Texas A&M, they are going to be sitting on one loss for quite some time.

As bigger schools in tougher conferences punch themselves out, SMU will slowly but surely rise in the ranks. Don't be surprised to see them pop into the rankings after they beat fellow bubble team Southern Miss.
