NBA Trade Speculation: 10 Players That Could Be Stars for Another Team

Daniel O'BrienOct 18, 2011

Whenever the NBA gets around to playing some basketball, several household names could be wearing different jerseys.

Whether it's the big market teams looking to land a superstar for the future, or a franchise looking to get rid of an expensive star, this season could see a flurry of trades.

New York and New Jersey will undoubtedly be working the phones to make transactions, and several teams will be scrambling to adjust to the new salary cap parameters.

Let's take a look at 10 players who could end up on a new team.

Michael Beasley

1 of 10

Michael Beasley's skills and potential are undeniable, but his ability to contribute to a winning culture in Minnesota is in question.

Beasley already had a history of off-court problems, and the latest issues only bolster his bad-boy reputation.

On the court, Beasley is primarily a scoring forward, as he averaged 19 points per game in 2011. He doesn't rebound well for his size, and has not played for a title contender yet in his career. Minnesota might move Beasley and his baggage elsewhere to make room for winners.

With Derrick Williams in the fold and Kevin Love as the franchise player, Beasley could be the odd man out.

Andris Biedrins

2 of 10

At 7'0" and still only 25 years old, Andris Biedrins is a player that several teams would love to have in their lineup.

His numbers aren't gaudy, but Biedrins is the type of center who can run the floor well, play great defense and rebound with the best of them. Even though he's young, he's a seven-year NBA veteran who already has his share of battle scars in the Western Conference.

Look for teams like Portland or Houston to try to make a deal for Biedrins. He would be a significant upgrade for either team's frontcourt, as both teams are desperately in need of a dependable center.

Chris Paul

3 of 10

Chris Paul is an unrestricted free agent in 2012, and the Hornets will be listening intently to offers from several suitors.

It will take a boatload of talent to land Paul, but big market teams will be willing to do it. He is easily one of the top three point guards in the game, and could be the cornerstone for a big-market dynasty.

Paul is the real deal because he can deliver 30 points or 15 assists on any given night, and he drops dimes like no one else. At 26 years old, he's entering the prime of his career.

Los Angeles and New York should both pursue him as the point guard of the future.

Andre Iguodala

4 of 10

Andre Iguodala is one of the most dynamic players in the NBA, but has not been able to lead the Sixers to a deep playoff run during his time there.

Recently, Philadelphia has been shopping him for players such as Chris Kaman of the Clippers and Monta Ellis of the Warriors.

Whether he ends up in Oakland or Los Angeles, Iguodala will be bringing his athleticism and prolific defensive skills with him.

Richard Hamilton

5 of 10

Richard Hamilton's time in Detroit is drawing to a close. The Pistons need to move him to create cap space, and the 12-year veteran has seen better days in the Motor City.

Hamilton's numbers took a turn for the worse in 2011, signaling that he is in the downswing of his career. However, he's a cagey veteran who still moves well without the ball and can shoot the lights out.

Young clubs in need of a veteran shooter will be interested in dealing for Hamilton. Teams like Toronto will take a flier on Rip.

Steve Nash

6 of 10

Steve Nash is still a top-tier floor general in the NBA, but his window of opportunity is closing in Phoenix.

His contract is up at the end of this season, and it's not likely that the Suns will sign him to a new deal. So Phoenix will probably shop him this year to find adequate compensation for his unique skills.

New York would be a magnificent destination for Nash. He would be reunited with Amar'e Stoudemire and Mike D'Antoni, and would be running alongside superstar Carmelo Anthony.

What more could Nash want, and what more could New York want?

Gerald Wallace

7 of 10

Gerald Wallace is the type of player that Portland might deal to get bigger.

He plays primarily a small forward, and what the Blazers need right now is a center to complement LaMarcus Aldridge. Wallace is still in the prime of his career as an athletic forward who can give a team 15 points and eight rebounds per night.

Wallace is an unrestricted free agent in 2012, but he might be playing for another team before then if Portland wants to get the most value for him.

Andrew Bynum

8 of 10

When he's healthy, Andrew Bynum is one of the premiere centers in the NBA. He's a double-double threat and an imposing presence in the paint.

Unfortunately, he's not the absolute best center in the NBA. That distinction belongs to Dwight Howard, and if the Lakers deal for Howard this season, Bynum will likely be part of the package shipped to Orlando.

Dwight Howard

9 of 10

Over the past few days it has become evident that Dwight Howard isn't quite satisfied in Orlando and wants to make his mark elsewhere.

Right now, he's a big fish in a small market. He wants to be a big fish in a big market. Los Angeles and New Jersey are the most-discussed destinations.

If Howard wants a title immediately, the Lakers are the obvious choice. But that means living in Kobe's shadow and being part of the Lakers drama.

The Nets might be a more attractive option because he could be the face of the new Brooklyn team and create his own legacy in a unique way. If he could turn the Nets franchise into a winner, he would be a basketball hero in the New York/New Jersey kingdom.

Antawn Jamison

10 of 10

This one is 100 percent speculation, but Antawn Jamison should be traded from Cleveland.

Jamison is 35 and could be a good veteran to help bring the young Cavaliers along, but his contract is up at the end of the year. If he's not going to be in Cleveland's long term rebuilding plans, they should trade him to get something decent in return.

He's not an explosive athlete or a lights-out shooter, but Jamison can still be a great second or third offensive option in the league.
