BCS Rankings 2011: These 5 Frauds Are Still Ranked in AP and USA Today Polls?
As we enter the midpoint of the college football regular season, many teams have proven they belong in the poll while many others have shown us they belong no where near them. However, there still remain some frauds who have somehow managed to keep themselves in the polls.
We've seen these teams get beaten, pushed around and walked all over; yet, USA Today and the Associated Press remain confident they belong in the Top 25. Today, we call them out on it.
Take a look at the polls. Can you find who doesn't belong? Here are five frauds who shouldn't be there.
Georgia USA Today: NR/AP: No. 25
1 of 5The AP poll came in with Georgia as the No. 25 team in the nation. The Bulldogs have done nothing to impress any of us, losing their first two games before starting a winning streak against unranked teams.
Boise State and South Carolina not only beat UGA, but they beat them on their own turf (Boise State played them in Atlanta). After defeating Coastal Carolina, Georgia has gone on to beat some weak conference opponents such as Tennessee, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.
If the Bulldogs can continue to win, pulling off victories over ranked teams perhaps, then they can vote them into the rankings, but right now Georgia does not deserve to be in the Top 25.
Arizona State USA Today: No. 25/AP: No. 24
2 of 5The Sun Devils were looking really solid, holding the best record in the Pac-12 South only having lost to an undefeated Illinois team. Now though, Illinois has lost its credibility while Oregon beat ASU soundly in Autzen Stadium.
The Missouri win in overtime was impressive, but a win over Oregon would have been all the proof the college football world needed to grant Arizona State some credit. Instead they sit at 5-2 and hope they can finish out the Pac-12 South.
Washington USA Today: No. 24/AP: No. 22
3 of 5The Huskies have looked good as of late, but that has been against weak teams from their conference. Next week is Stanford and knocking off a top 10 opponent would certainly change my mind.
In the mean time, Washington has no wins against ranked teams. Their lone loss was an embarrassing trip to Lincoln against Nebraska. Their first win of the season was a 30-27 victory over Eastern Washington, which is a poor score for a tune-up game.
Until the Huskies prove they can play with the Top 25, they don't need to join them.
Illinois USA Today: No. 21/AP: No. 23
4 of 5The Fighting Illini were looking really solid until just this week. Undefeated and sitting atop the B1G tied for first, Illinois forgot to come to the game against Ohio State.
A really bad Buckeyes team owned both sides of the ball, beating Illinois 17-7. Now that the dream of winning the B1G has started to fall apart, we take a closer look at their record.
They have one win versus a ranked opponent, No. 22 Arizona State at the time, who currently resides No. 25 on the USA Today Poll. The rest are against cupcake teams: Indiana and Northwestern.
The Fighting Illini need to savor this next week against Purdue because then we see their true colors in a three game rampage against No. 22 Penn State, No. 17 Michigan and finally No. 4 Wisconsin.
Georgia Tech USA Today: No. 19/ AP: No. 20
5 of 5The Yellow Jackets had us all tricked until yesterday against Virginia. Boasting a 6-0 record, Georgia Tech was flying high and tied for first in the ACC.
Then Virginia ruined it all by beating them in a close 24-21 match at Virginia. Looking back at their record, Tech has beaten no ranked teams and barely survived a few other games against teams like North Carolina State, Maryland and North Carolina.
Now the Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 19 in the nation, but a tough game against Clemson in two weeks will show us just how bad Georgia Tech really is.
