Denard Robinson Injury: Hurt QB Will Have Little Effect on Michigan's Season
Denard Robinson left in the fourth quarter of Michigan's 28-14 loss to Michigan State, but I don't think the injury is serious enough to have major implications on the Wolverines' season.
Big Blue dropped to 6-1 after losing to the Spartans today, and salt was thrown in the wound as Robinson was helped off the field after taking a somewhat cheap shot from defensive end Marcus Rush.
Rush was flagged for a personal foul and Robinson didn't return to what would ultimately be the Wolverines' first loss of the season and fourth in a row to their East Lansing rivals.
However, I don't think this situation is as dire as many pundits will declare over the next few days.
In his post-game interview, Robinson dismissed the injury as anything major by saying, "I got a little dinged up."
His coach, Brady Hoke, echoed these sentiments after the game as well.
"He got a little beat up, yeah," Hoke said, not sounding worried at all. "We've got two weeks off and our training staff is one of the best in the country," he added.
I agree with Hoke—which I don't do often. Robinson, and therefore Michigan, should be just fine when they take on Purdue on Oct. 29.
The success of Michigan is planted firmly on the shoulders of Robinson, but I think he's more than prepared to carry them after this loss. As a very mobile quarterback, Robinson is used to taking big hits and I doubt this particular one will linger.
Although he had a rough game today, the kid that doesn't even tie his shoes has been killing it this year.
The explosive QB has 1,850 total yards this season (1,130 passing, 720 rushing) and 18 total touchdowns (10 passing, 8 rushing).
Expect a fully healthy Robinson to rebound from this loss and lead Michigan to victory at the end of this month.
