NFL Trade Rumors: Where Will Denver Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd Land?

Cedric HopkinsOct 13, 2011

The Denver Broncos have placed wide receiver Brandon Lloyd on the trade block, according to the Denver Post

The Denver Broncos’ front office has decided to part ways, potentially, with arguably their top talent at wide receiver.  The two sides have been unable to agree to terms on a contract extension for Lloyd after last year’s breakout season.

Lloyd hauled in 77 passes for 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns. This potential is up for grabs.

The cost—anywhere between a third and fifth round draft pick. Lloyd’s reasonable $1.395 million dollar salary won’t be a barrier to him making an in-season switch by the October 18 trade deadline either.

Denver’s switch in quarterbacks from Kyle Orton to Tim Tebow may have given the Broncos the framework needed to feel confident about letting Lloyd go.

While Tebow may be an inaccurate passer, he is a very physical, dominating runner. Broncos head coach John Fox likes to run the ball and control the clock. Lloyd's deep threat skill set doesn't bode well for Fox's offensive philosophy or Tebow's eagerness to tuck the ball and plow through would-be tacklers.

Exit Lloyd—enter…

Brandon Lloyd the Cure for the Tennesse Titans' Kenny Britt Blues?

1 of 4

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchack has been on record saying that he will look into trade options to replace the talented Kenny Britt.

The Titans are holding their collective breath with Nate Washington and Damien Williams starting at wide receiver. Neither is a true playmaker.

Washington and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck have good chemistry, but more is needed from Washington as far as big play ability. Unfortunately, he lacks that ability.

Williams has been lackadaisical in his play. The Titans' offensive coordinator Chris Palmer chewed Williams out for being on "cruise control" during the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5.

Brandon Lloyd makes up for what both Washington and Williams lack. He has big play ability and has shown a strong work ethic over the past nine seasons in the league.

The Titans would be a good fit for Lloyd.

Brandon Lloyd Can Be Sam Bradford's New Buddy

2 of 4

There might not be a team in the NFL hit harder by the injury imp than the St. Louis Rams

Sam Bradford has been nipped, Mark Clayton has been tucked, Steven Jackson has been down and Danny Amendola has been out.

The remaining wide receivers have underperformed.

The addition of Mike Sims-Walker was supposed to revive a slumping passing attack. It hasn't. Sims-Walker has caught 11 passes for 139 yards and no touchdowns for the season.

Brandon Gibson has hauled in 13 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown. He's not getting it done either.

Danario Alexander is not reliable. The Rams have him on a snap count and any play could be his last.

The Rams securely hold the 28th spot in the league for passing yards and are likely to hold at that spot with the wide receivers currently on their roster.

St. Louis would be wise to court Lloyd with the hopes of landing him for a fourth round pick.

Cam Newton to Get Another Weapon?

3 of 4

Cam Newton has revived the Carolina Panthers' passing attack. The problem is he's using one wide receiver to do it—Steve Smith.

Opposite Steve Smith is, well, not much. Typical.

Legedu Naanee is the starter and has caught a measly 12 tosses for 138 yards and hasn't scored a single touchdown yet.

Third on the depth chart is Brandon LaFell. LaFell seems to be more talented than Naanee, but hasn't shown enough to earn a starting role. He's caught 13 of Newton's passes for 181 yards and one score.

Pedestrian numbers for both.

Don't put it past Panthers' general manager Marty Hurney to give up draft picks to acquire a talented player.

Brandon Lloyd should be no exception.

Lloyd could take the 1-4 Panthers to a winning season.

Arizona Cardinals Desperate for Wide Receiver Help

4 of 4

Simply put, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb needs more options to target. Better said, Kolb needs more talented options.

Larry Fitzgerald has been bracketed, pressed, double and tripled teamed this season. Opposing defenses have this luxury because the Cardinals don't have a real receiving threat outside of Fitzgerald.

The other Cardinals starting wide receiver, Andre Roberts, has caught 12 passes for 125 yards over the team's first five games. These numbers are unacceptable.

Cardinals wide receiver Early Doucet is third on the depth chart and has outplayed Roberts—but not to any significant degree. Doucet's recorded 21 catches for 309 yards and a touchdown this season. Almost a third of Doucet's receiving yards came in last week's game against the Minnesota Vikings where he caught 8 passes for 92 yards.

Arizona can do better.

With Brandon Lloyd on the trading block, now they have the opportunity.

Just last year, Lloyd led the NFL in receiving yards (1,448) and caught 11 touchdown passes. Arizona would do well to move Lloyd to the desert.

The question is: Which team will act first?
