NBA Lockout: NBA Labor Talks Could Last for More Than One Season
Take a deep breath, basketball fans.
The sad reality, it seems, is that the announcement of the cancellation for the first two weeks of the NBA season is just the beginning of a painfully long process.
BigLeadSports reports that Detroit Piston guard Ben Gordon has sat in on labor negotiations between the owners and players, and believes that this lockout could last a year or two.
“I think there will be more games missed. I expect it might be a year or two. I realized that when I was listening to both sides during the negotiations. I think there will be a lot of games missed and more money is going to go down the drain," Gordon said.
Up until recently, it appeared that the time going to be missed would be minimal.
Most people assumed that half a season would be lost at most.
Can you imagine if there is no NBA for two seasons?
Really, think about it. It would be mayhem.
Think about all of the current NBA players heading overseas to go play basketball around the globe.
Think about all of the college players who could potentially be losing a future in the league.
Think about the Miami Heat. So much for not four, not five, not six championships. LeBron James may be better off heading out and playing football.
Think about the stars of the league. Two years from now, would Kobe Bryant even return to basketball?
Think about the unemployment. Forget the billionaires vs. millionaires. There will be thousands out of work with no guaranteed future.
I could go on and on.
The damage caused by this lockout is detrimental to the league, the players and the supporting communities.
It was a big deal when the talks were that half a season would be missed.
It's now a huge deal if we are talking about more than one season.
