Manchester City Transfer Talk: 5 January Transfers City Could Target

Sam TigheOct 11, 2011

If there's one thing that's certain, it's that Manchester City will be doing business in January.

The Citizens never stop looking at ways to improve their squad and have accumulated a team bursting with talent over the last three years.

Manchester City will look to January to bring in new players to bolster their title challenge whilst continuing the process of removing the dead wood.

Despite bringing many classy and talented players to the blue side of Manchester, Roberto Mancini is still trying to rectify the wrongs previous boss Mark Hughes committed in the transfer window.

Read on to find five potential transfers, in and out, that Manchester City could look to make.

Enjoy the show!

Out: Carlos Tevez

Let's get this one out of the way as early as possible. Carlos Tevez needs to go in January. Manchester City can still rake in at least £25 million for him and they will be eager to make a deal.

There are many potential suitors out there for Tevez to consider, with more and more clubs finding oil rich privileges similar to City's.

The Argentine is a world class striker, but enough is enough. Kick him out of the door in January and be rid of the saga.

In: Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani is one of the hottest strikers in the world right now. He's had one hell of year too, with a good performance in the World Cup coupled with a 2011 Copa America win for Uruguay.

In addition to this, he helped fire his club Napoli into the Champions League and they look like real title contenders for the Serie A Scudetto at this moment in time.

Quite simply, this guy could score through a letter box at the moment. Twenty-six goals in last year's Serie A campaign followed by six goals in six games in all competitions this season proves he's a consistent, reliable goal scorer.

With Carlos Tevez likely taking his leave, Edinson Cavani could be a fantastic replacement. Something about City's ambition and stature dictates that they will likely look to replace Tevez and maintain the idea of having four world-class strikers in their ranks.

In: Daniele De Rossi

With Daniele De Rossi still stalling on negotiations, it seems he may well seek pastures new despite being a stout Roman.

The Italian anchor man would add to an already stunning central midfield set up Manchester City have and perhaps tip the quality of personnel into the world class bracket.

He is calm, controlling and majestic on the ball with a ferocious long shot. He leads the team well and looks a typical Roberto Mancini target.

He is out of contract in the summer and can be considered a realistic target for the Citizens.

Out: Wayne Bridge

4 of 5

It's difficult to believe Wayne Bridge is still a Manchester City player.

His number at City is up and has been for a while. Aleksander Kolarov and Gael Clichy are the current City contenders for the left-back spot and failing that Roberto Mancini would even prefer Stefan Savic step in.

When he signed for Manchester City in January 2009, he was one of the first players to join City in their new billionaire era. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the talent to displace Kolarov and Clichy and looked relatively poor in his loan spell at West Ham last season.

He commands considerable wages which means City will be looking to offload him, but he may well be leaving for free if he does go. Any takers?

In: Alessio Cerci

5 of 5

Alessio Cerci will probably be Roberto Mancini's number one target in January.

“He is one of the few players who are able to win a game on their own. If I could have I would have brought him to the Premier League a year ago. But we could not complete the transaction and in all honesty I must say that I understand Fiorentina.”

Kind words from the Italian tactician show you just how much he admires Cerci, who currently plays as a winger for Italian side Fiorentina.

City's squad is pretty packed but there's always room for one more world class star. If he's as good as Mancini says he is, Adam Johnson may be finding first team playing time even harder to come by soon.
