AP Poll College Football Week 7: Who's Set to Take BCS Rankings by Storm?
There is only one week until the first BCS rankings come out, and the real conversations about who deserves to be ranked where finally come out.
Some teams have solidified a great ranking by beating some of the country’s best teams, while other teams will get bumped out by teams not currently in the AP or Coaches’ polls.
Here are the teams who should be excited to see those initial rankings this Sunday.
Baylor
1 of 6One of the biggest surprise teams of the year, Baylor has been absolutely electrifying on offense.
However, their one big win was against TCU, and they won’t get much credit for that from the computers. If they can get a win on the road at Texas A&M, the Bears could jump right back up into the Top 15.
The Aggies have two losses—albeit to very highly ranked teams—but until other teams start losing, it will be tough for them to climb the rankings, even if it’s against ranked opponents.
Oklahoma State
2 of 6Speaking of amazing Big 12 offenses, Oklahoma State takes on No. 22 Texas this weekend. If they beat the Longhorns, the Cowboys would have as many Top 25 wins as in-state rival Oklahoma.
If Texas A&M beats Baylor, they would have a better-looking record for the computers than the Sooners, Wisconsin, Boise State and Stanford.
Adding in the bump they would get in the human polls by beating Texas, and the Pokes could easily become the No. 4 team in the BCS.
Michigan
3 of 6The Wolverines finally face a tough defense when they go on the road to take on their in-state rivals, Michigan State.
Outside of the Notre Dame game, Michigan has won every game this season by at least 18 points.
Even though Michigan State is 4-1, they have not beaten anyone of note, and that won’t bode well for the computers. But Michigan has not played anyone good either and they need every quality win they can get.
Win and they could move into the Top 10, lose and they could move back into the 20s.
Florida
4 of 6The Gators take on Auburn this weekend for the “We Lost to Really Good Teams” bowl. Auburn snuck into the Top 25 while Florida just got left out.
But Florida has lost to the best and second-best teams in the country, as opposed to the Tigers, who lost to No. 8 Clemson and No. 10 Arkansas.
Expect the winner of this game to be ranked much higher than people may think, especially if that team is Florida.
Oregon
5 of 6The Ducks’ lone loss this season has been to No. 1 LSU at a neutral site. They have dominated all of the rest of their opponents by at least 25 points.
The computers love those kinds of numbers and, while there are 13 teams currently undefeated, Oregon has the best profile of the one-loss teams.
They also play Arizona State this weekend at home, in what should be an incredibly entertaining game. The Sun Devils have not played particularly well on the road, so expect the Ducks to pull out the victory and get a ranked win to further bolster their resume.
Don’t be surprised if they are ranked higher than conference foe Stanford, who has yet to play a team even close to a Top 25 ranking.
Kansas State
6 of 6The Wildcats take on a Texas Tech team that has quietly gone 5-1 this season. State already has a win over Baylor, as well as decent wins over Miami and Missouri.
There are a bunch of teams in the 10-20 rankings that have not played many quality opponents, and, while Tech hasn’t beaten anybody of note, maintaining their undefeated mark over a one-loss team should help their case more than people think.
