Victor Cruz: Assessing the New York Giants WR's Fantasy Football Value
Victor Cruz is emerging as a legitimate fantasy football option.
He entered the season charged with replacing the dependable Steve Smith after earning a little fame as a preseason standout prior to the 2010 season. However, he was unable to land a roster spot until this year.
Cruz started the season with a catch-less performance versus the Washington Redskins. He followed up that performance with only two catches and 17 yards, versus the St. Louis Rams.

His season started to turn around against division rival Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, he helped the Giants pull off a victory, by pulling in two big touchdown receptions. That game against the Eagles gave Cruz some confidence and momentum.
In the past three games, Cruz is averaging 123 yards per game. He has capped off his good run with an eight-catch, 161-yard game against the Seattle Seahawks that included an amazing catch for a touchdown. Cruz is putting up the the type of numbers that are now making him a must-start in fantasy football.
When you start looking for a wavier-wire addition, you want to see a breakout performance followed by consistency. Cruz has had his breakout performance and now is showing good consistency.
Cruz is starting to earn the trust of Eli Manning, which only increases his fantasy value. He was targeted a team-high 11 times, pulling in eight receptions.
Hakeem Nicks is still the Giants' top receiving option, but Cruz is starting to earn some attention. Nicks' playmaking ability demands defensive attention, which is why Cruz is getting good matchups.
At this point, Cruz is a must-start fantasy wide receiver. His status as a fantasy starter is increased by the bye week needs.
