College Fooball Rankings: Re-Ranking the Top 10 after Week 6
Week 6 is over and what's done is done. Before the new rankings come out, we take a look at how the Top 10 should be mixed up.
Everyone in the Top 10 won this week, and one team had a bye. Question is, whose win was more impressive, and does that mean they should move up?
Every one of these teams has potential to to win their conference and maybe even a BCS Bowl. This year, the nation's Top 10 all are powerhouses that deserve respect, a rare occasion in college football.
We re-rank the Top 10 after finally finishing out Week 6 of college football.
10) Oregon Ducks
1 of 10The Ducks crushed unranked Cal yesterday 43-15. They have a powerful offense that can score a lot of points and expect them to be in contention for the Pac-12 Title.
They should drop one rank this week because the team that's ranked above them, Arkansas, destroyed a much tougher opponent. Oregon lines up against no. 22 Arizona State next weekend, and should look to continue their four-game win streak.
9) Arkansas Razorbacks
2 of 10Arkansas welcomed no. 15 Auburn to Fayetteville and sent them away beaten. A monster win over an SEC West foe, Arkansas walked all over Gene Chizik and company, 38-14.
The Razorbacks deserve to move up in the rankings after such a quality win over a ranked opponent. Going into a bye next week, and then playing the Rebels the next should provide some much-needed rest as well as one of their easiest division games of the year. Watch for Arkansas to create a splash in the SEC if it continues to win.
8) Clemson Tigers
3 of 10Dabo Swinney should be proud of his team after they wrecked Boston College in Death Valley 36-14. The Tigers are the ACC powerhouse, having already defeated Florida State and Virginia Tech.
Clemson visits College Park next weekend to face the Terps. If they want to continue their undefeated season and a shot at the Title, the Tigers have to stay focused and continue to produce offensively.
7) Stanford Cardinal
4 of 10Andrew Luck and company continue to impress out on the West Coast. The Cardinal are undefeated, and only face one more ranked opponent this season. Their BCS hopes stay alive after crushing Pac-12 South opponent Colorado 48-7.
Pac-12 North foe Washington State is next as Stanford visits the Wildcats. The Oregon game at home is the deal-breaker for both teams, and it's never too early to start preparing.
6) Oklahoma State Cowboys
5 of 10Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon pummeled the Kansas defense for a 70-28 win in Stillwater. The Cowboys stay undefeated, sitting atop the Big 12 at 5-0. No. 11-ranked Texas is next in Austin for this offensive monster.
With four ranked opponents left, Oklahoma State needs to continue to produce on offense. Matching up against a smart Texas team in Austin won't be easy, but expect the Cowboys to play smart for the rest of the season.
5) Boise State Broncos
6 of 10As the bane of college football, Kellen Moore and company wiped out Fresno State in Fresno on Friday night 57-7. Peterson and his blue crew seem unstoppable again, heading for another undefeated season.
Unfortunately for the Broncos, they have no ranked opponents left. This is a problem if they want to make it to the national title game this year. Next week they go to Colorado State to continue conference play.
4) Wisconsin Badgers
7 of 10The Badgers had an off week this week, and shouldn't be affected by everyone around them in the rankings winning. Wisconsin only has one ranked foe remaining this season, which will make moving up in the polls difficult.
Next week, Wisconsin faces Indiana in Madison. Another easy Big Ten conference win. Expect the Badgers to quietly continue their undefeated season.
3) Alabama Crimson Tide
8 of 10The Tide continued to roll against the Commodores, shutting them out 34-0. The Alabama defense impresses again, pulling their second shutout of the season.
Alabama should only drop because of Oklahoma's impressive win over no. 11 Texas. They need not worry about it however, considering that they will be vying for the top spot in the nation in three weeks at home against the LSU Tigers.
Next week they take on the Rebels in Oxford. This should be their easiest division game all season, and they should take advantage of a weak SEC opponent.
2) Oklahoma Sooners
9 of 10The Sooners destroyed no. 11 Texas yesterday in the Cotton Bowl, closing out the game 55-17. The defense scored three times and Landry Jones was accurate and efficient. Stoops and his crew deserve a little respect after dropping in two consecutive weeks.
Oklahoma is the Big 12 favorite, and will play in the national championship if it finishes the season undefeated. Going into Lawrence next week against the Jayhawks, the Sooners get some well-deserved rest.
1) LSU Tigers
10 of 10The Tigers walked all over a no. 17-ranked Florida team in Death Valley, winning 41-11. One of the most crushing defenses in the nation, LSU continues on its way to another national title. Les Miles and company just started a four-game streak of playing against the SEC's best teams, finishing it out with a clash against no. 2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
LSU has the potential to go undefeated this season if Jarrett Lee and the offense do what they've been doing. They haven't been turning the ball over, and they score on a consistent basis. Next week they go into Knoxville to play the Volunteers.
