College Football Rankings 2011: LSU, Oklahoma and Other Huge Winners
As expected, Week 6 of the 2011 college football season produced some exceptional games.
The great teams looked great. The bad teams looked bad. And for once in a very long time, the college football rankings seemed to all make sense.
It's always a great feeling when you can look at the Top 10 and everybody seems to be exactly where they need to be for the time being.
The major programs really stepped up and showed the college football world why they are the powerhouses that they are.
Not only that, but a few teams redeemed themselves with big wins after horrible losses last week.
All in all, it was a great day to be a college football fan. Let's take a look at some of the biggest winners of the week:
Oklahoma:
So far this year, all I've thought about the Sooners was the fact that they were overrated. I didn't think they deserved to be No. 1 in the preseason rankings, and I didn't think they played anybody worth mentioning. Their first real test was in the Red River Rivalry game against Texas, and they passed with flying colors.
Oklahoma 55 - Texas 17
LSU:
LSU came out and proved to the nation why they were given the No. 1 ranking, and why they deserve to keep it. They absolutely beat down Florida, who didn't have the services of quarterback John Brantley. I'm pretty sure the game would have just been a little bit closer, because LSU is that good.
LSU 41 - Florida 11
South Carolina:
After losing to Auburn and essentially giving up their BCS hopes, I was all but ready to give up on the Gamecocks. They came out and plastered Kentucky, though, so things look to be back on track at least for this week.
South Carolina 54 - Kentucky 3
Boise State:
Boise looked great against Fresno State, and took care of business like we expected too. Not much to say about the Broncos besides acknowledging that they are very good, and quarterback Kellen Moore really knows how to run that offense.
Boise State 57 - Fresno State 7
