Auburn vs. Arkansas: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Razorbacks Must Make
Pretty great half so far as the No. 15 Auburn Tigers take on the No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks. The Razorbacks are looking to avoid the upset and continue their rise up the national polls.
Here are five halftime adjustments the Razorbacks must make if they want to leave today with the win.
1. Counter the Tigers' Pressure
Arkansas needs to counter the Tigers' pressure in the second half. This should be done by running screens to Green or Johnson in the single TE set. Auburn seems to want to dial up the pressure against Wilson so look for the Hogs to counter with the screen.
2. More Play-Action
Play-action seems to be working for the Razorbacks. In the second half, the Hogs need to balance out their offense and try to get Green and Johnson going on the ground. Once they have the Tigers off balance, they should continue to take shots deep with play-action and attack the holes in Auburn's secondary.
3. Set the Edge
The Hogs need to step up their run defense in the second half. Last week against Texas A&M, they allowed a whopping 381 yards on the ground. If Arkansas wants to escape with the victory, they need to set the edge and force the Tigers' RBs inside. Without a solid run game, Auburn's offense is severely handicapped.
4. Empty Set
The Hogs should run more empty sets in the second half. Throughout the season, Arkansas has had some success with an empty backfield while letting Wilson roll out of pressure. Look for more of this in the final half of play.
5. Stand Tall in the Pocket
Wilson needs to feel out the pressure and step up in the pocket. His indecisiveness has already resulted in a turnover in the first quarter. If the Hogs want to win this game, he must continue to feel out the pressure, step up in the pocket and deliver solid throws.
