View from Kingsmeadow, Volume 55: More League Action for AFC Wimbledon

Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon were hoping for a better performance against Football League One outfit Stevenage as they clashed in the Football League Trophy Tuesday at Kingsmeadow.

Lawrie Wilson opened the scoring in the seventh minute for Stevenage. In the 55th minute, Stevenage conceded a penalty and Sam Hatton equalized for Wimbledon.

Rashid Yussuff then took the lead for the Dons in the 58th minute. However, the Dons conceded a late equalizer to Mark Roberts in the second minute of stoppage time.

Sam Hatton, Ricky Wellard, Chris Bush and Lee Minshull propelled AFC Wimbledon to a 4-3 victory on penalties, with Jack Turner making a stop on Wilson.

Wimbledon will face Swindon Town in the next round.

The remaining question for the Wombles was how they would build on this result as they took on Morecambe over the weekend.

Last season, the Shrimps finished with a record of 13-21-12 (51 points) and were 20th in the Football League Two. Forward Phil Jevons led Morecambe with nine goals that campaign and is a player to watch for Saturday at Globe Arena.

"Having looked at Morecambe's report against Preston where they held one of the first division front runners to a 2-2 draw, we are obviously going to be in for another difficult game," Brown told reporters on Thursday. "Morecambe currently sit in third position and have conceded the least number of goals in the division."

"Apart from Macclesfield, our away form this year has been really positive. We will go in the same frame of mind, looking for maximum points, as we have done everywhere."

"As far as our injured players are concerned, we are hoping that Mat Mitchel-King will be able to take part in a behind-closed-doors friendly next week, along with the players who aren't traveling to Morecambe."

Christian Jolley nearly had a chance to go through in the 10th minute. Ten minutes later, Morecambe took an early 1-0 lead thanks to Stuart Drummond.

In the 35th minute, Jack Midson, after wasting the 10th minute delivery from Jolley, redeemed himself to equalize matters at a goal apiece.

Jolley scored a header in the 84th minute to give Wimbledon a 2-1 lead. That would be the final result, as the Dons continued their push for the top of the table.

Up next for AFC Wimbledon is a match with struggling Crewe Alexandra.

Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET.
