LSU Tigers Football and the 10 Most Difficult Roads to the BCS Title Game
There isn't another team in the country that has looked as impressive through the first five weeks of the college football season as LSU has.
The Tigers have taken out Oregon, Mississippi State and West Virginia, all in dominant fashion, on their way to a perfect 5-0 record heading into a Week 6 matchup against SEC foe, Florida.
But Les Miles' team's schedule doesn't ease up by any means going forward. In fact, it can easily be argued that LSU has the most challenging remaining schedule of any team in the country.
Let's break down the 10 teams that have the most challenging roads to the BCS Title game.
Bleacher Report Style!
10. Boise State
1 of 10This always seems to be the lone reason that Boise State doesn't make it to the National Title game, or even a BCS game in the case of last season.
After the Broncos beat up on Georgia in Week 1, they paved there way for what should be an almost guaranteed undefeated season.
The most challenging remaining game on Boise State's schedule comes against a TCU team that is nowhere near as good as they were last year, or over the past couple years for that matter.
How much of an uproar is it going to cause when Boise State finishes the year undefeated and gets left out of the BCS title game yet again?
9. Wisconsin
2 of 10When the Badgers took down Nebraska in emphatic fashion last weekend, they paved quite a favorable rout to an undefeated season.
Wisconsin will have to travel down to East Lansing on Oct. 22 for a primetime matchup against the Spartans. Michigan State took down Wisconsin at Spartan Stadium last year, and it could happen again this year. But with the way Russell Wilson and this team has been playing thus far, that seems like a pretty challenging task ahead.
Other than that Michigan State game, this Wisconsin team should have pretty steady sailing to the Big Ten title game and be a legitimate National Title contender.
8. Clemson
3 of 10Clemson has been beyond impressive thus far this season, but keep in mind that this team plays in the weak ACC, which doesn't exactly bring fear to other college football opponents.
Clemson already knocked off both Virginia Tech and Florida State this season, which were the only true threats on this schedule to start the year anyway. The only remaining game that should give Clemson any serious trouble is that Oct. 29 matchup at Georgia Tech. That game should decide the ACC champion.
Clemson has an easy road, but even if they do get through their schedule undefeated, would they be chosen to the National Championship over an undefeated Boise State team or a one-loss LSU or Alabama team?
7. Stanford
4 of 10A lot of the same thoughts I had about Oregon's schedule can be directed towards Stanford as well.
Stanford travels to USC, which should be a challenge, but a win none the less. They host Oregon on Nov. 12 in that much anticipated game, which should decide the top team in the Pac-12. Then the Cardinal closes out the season against a Notre Dame team, that will continue to be overrated as long as the program stays in existence.
If Stanford can beat Oregon, they should have a legitimate shot at playing in the National Title game.
6. Oregon
5 of 10The Pac-12 is one of those leagues that is pretty hop heavy, but really seems to drop down a lot on the talent scale after you get past those top four or five schools.
The Ducks opened the season with a loss to LSU, which took a hit on their National Title hopes. But, Chip Kelly's team is slowly climbing their way back up the rankings and has a chance to finish the season with that LSU game being the only loss on their schedule.
Looking ahead, Oregon hosts Arizona State in two weeks, which should be a descent game, but the Ducks should win by double digits. After that, everything points to that Nov.12 matchup at Stanford being one of the top games not only in the Pac-12, but throughout the entire country this season.
If Oregon can beat Stanford, they could have an outside shot at reaching the big game.
5. Alabama
6 of 10Alabama plays in the always-challenging SEC, which makes them a given to have a challenging schedule, but the Tide have already knocked off two of their toughest opponents in Florida and Arkansas.
The remainder of the schedule is actually pretty beatable for SEC standards. Trent Richardson and co. still have to travel to Auburn to close out the year, but other than that, the only game that should be close is that much-anticipated matchup against LSU on Nov. 5.
The winner of that game against LSU should cement their name in the National Title game.
No questions asked.
4. Oklahoma
7 of 10The Sooners begin their challenging part of the schedule right now when they go up against Texas this week in the Red River Rivalry.
Oklahoma closes the season with four of their final five games against ranked teams, including traveling to Kansas State, Baylor and Oklahoma State. The Sooners do have some conference cupcakes like Kansas and Iowa State, which certainly helps their cause.
In order to be the best, you have to beat the best, and Oklahoma will have their chance with five very challenging games remaining this season.
3. Oklahoma State
8 of 10The Cowboys have an explosive offense, but they are going to need more than that if they are going to get through this daunting schedule with an undefeated record.
Starting next week, Oklahoma State will have to travel to Texas and Missouri for back-to-back games and then host two solid teams in Baylor and Kansas State.
The most challenging part of this schedule comes at the end when the Cowboys have to play Oklahoma. Even though that game is at home, is still comes against arguably the best team in the country.
2. Arkansas
9 of 10The Razorbacks are one of two teams on this list that already has a loss attached to its name, which makes the road to the National Title Game already extremely difficult. But it doesn't get any easier for Arkansas going forward.
The Razorbacks will host Auburn this weekend, which will be a very important game to see how good Arkansas really is. They have a generally easy schedule for SEC standards in the middle of their schedule, but then they close out their final four games against South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi State and LSU.
It certainly doesn't help that the final game of the regular season is in Baton Rouge.
In other words, it's quite a long shot that we will see Arkansas in the National Championship game this season.
1. LSU
10 of 10The Tigers have already played what is no-question the hardest schedule in the country through the first five weeks of the college football season.
Well guess what? It only gets harder going forward.
LSU started the year with the four hardest games, and now they follow that up with the four hardest games ahead. The Tigers face Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama in their next four games, which is grueling for any team, any way you look at it.
In addition to that, the Tigers' close out their season with a matchup against Arkansas.
The No.1 team in the country has the No.1-most challenging schedule in the country.
Sounds about right.
