50 Bold Predictions for the NFL's Week 5
Congratulations, you've officially made it through your work week and football is almost here!
With that being said, this weekend is filled with a slate of games with many intriguing storylines. Will the Philadelphia Eagles snap their three-game losing streak? Will the New York Jets leave New England with a victory? How many yards will Cam Newton throw for this week against the New Orleans Saints?
All of those questions will be answered in my 50 bold predictions for the NFL's Week 5.
Allow me to kickoff your weekend with these wild predictions—enjoy!
The Tennessee Titans Will Upset the Pittsburgh Steelers
1 of 50The Pittsburgh Steelers' will struggle again in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans are coming into the weekend with a 3-1 record with an impressive Week 2 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Pittsburgh is simply not the same team that it was a year ago, and on top of that, they're extremely banged up and will suffer a third loss against the Titans.
Chris Johnson Will Run for 100 Yards Against the Steelers
2 of 50Uncharacteristically, the Pittsburgh Steelers run defense is averaging a pitiful 4.8 yards per carry, which is certainly good news for Chris Johnson.
CJ2K has been inconsistent this season, with only broke 100 yards once this season, which was just a week ago.
Johnson will continue his success against the Steelers this Sunday.
Ben Roethlisberger Will Be Picked off 3 Times by the Titans
3 of 50Ben Roethlisbeger has been picked off in each game this season besides one and will have a terrible day against the Tennessee Titans.
How many interceptions will Big Ben throw? Let's go with three.
Rashard Mendenhall Will Not Run for More Than 50 Yards Against Tennessee
4 of 50Assuming that Rashard Mendenhall will play against the Titans this Sunday, I'm predicting that will not break 50 yards rushing.
Mendenhall has yet to practice this week and has yet to run for more than 66 yards in a game and there's no reason why to believe that he'll do well during Week 5.
Matt Hasselbeck Will Throw for 4 Touchdowns Against Pittsburgh
5 of 50Matt Hasselbeck has been quite the surprise for the Tennessee Titans this season, as he's thrown for 1,152 yards and eight touchdowns while recording a solid 104.7 passer rating.
After this week's game against, Hasselbeck will have 11 touchdowns on the season.
Andy Dalton Will Throw for 300 Yards Against the Jacksonville Jaguars
6 of 50So far this season, the rookie out of TCU, Andy Dalton, has played extremely well for the 2-2 Cincinnati Bengals.
Dalton has thrown for 300-plus yards once this season and will do it again against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars.
Blaine Gabbert Will Throw More Touchdowns Than Interceptions
7 of 50Blaine Gabbert has certainly played like a rookie so far for the Jacksonville Jaguars will turn it around in Week 5 against the Bengals.
Granted, the Bengals defense is one of the league's best, but Gabbert will throw more touchdowns than interceptions.
Maurice Jones-Drew Will Run Wild Against the Bengals
8 of 50Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the better running backs in the NFL and will prove why against Cincinnati Bengals.
Jones-Drew has only ran for more than 100 yards once this season but will break the 100 yard mark Sunday afternoon.
Blaine Gabbert and Andy Dalton Will Combine for at Least 500 Yards
9 of 50As I previously predicted that Andy Dalton will throw for 300 yards against the Jags, I'm also going to say that Blaine Gabbert will throw for at least 200—I know, it's not that bold.
Both quarterbacks will combine for at least 500 passing yards during Sunday's matchup.
Cam Newton Will Accumulate at Least 350 Passing Yards
10 of 50If the Carolina Panthers want to be able to compete against the high-powered New Orleans Saints' offensive attack, then Cam Newton is going to have to throw the ball a lot.
With that being said, Newton will have at least 350 total passing yards in this week's matchup.
Cam Newton Will Have at Least 450 Total Yards Against the New Orleans Saints
11 of 50As Cam Newton throws for at least 350, I'm predicting that he comes close to running for 100 yards, which he's yet to do all season.
Newton is definitely a threat on the ground, his season-high is only 53 yards—that will definitely change against the Saints.
Darren Sproles Will Score Three Touchdowns Against the Panthers
12 of 50Darren Sproles is one of the most explosive and elusive running backs in the entire league and will have the game of his life against the Carolina Panthers.
Sproles has only scored one touchdown this season, but he'll triple that number Sunday afternoon.
Carolina Will Intercept Drew Brees Two Times
13 of 50Drew Brees is one of the elite quarterbacks in the game, but has had two back-to-back two interception games—that streak will continue during Week 5.
The Carolina Panthers may have only two interceptions on the entire season, but they'll find a way to pick off Brees twice.
Carolina Will Give New Orleans a Run for Their Money
14 of 50The Carolina Panthers may be coming into Week 5 with a 1-3 record, but that could easily be a 4-0 record.
The Panthers have been in every game, even against the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.
Cam Newton and his team will find a way to compete against New Orleans this Sunday.
Darren McFadden and Arian Foster Will Combine for 250 Total Rushing Yards
15 of 50With Andre Johnson out, the Houston Texans will likely play like the Oakland Raiders this weekend—a team that will try to run the ball down your throat.
Both team's stud running backs, Darren McFadden and Arian Foster, will run for over 100 yards each and combine for a grand-total of 250 total rushing yards.
The Raiders Will Upset the Texans
16 of 50Let's be honest, the Oakland Raiders a very talented football team that could end up winning the AFC West this season.
With that being said, the Houston Texans are without Andre Johnson this weekend and could suffer a loss against the Raiders.
Upset alert!
Oakland Will Pick off Matt Schaub Twice
17 of 50Matt Schaub may only have three total interceptions on the season, but without Andre Johnson this weekend against the Raiders, Schaub and Houston's passing game will struggle.
With Johnson out, Schaub will look lost on the field and throw at least two interceptions.
Darren McFadden Will Score 3 Touchdowns Against the Texans
18 of 50Darren McFadden was held in check by the New England Patriots last weekend with the team's 31-19 loss, but he'll explode against the Houston Texans.
McFadden has scored a total of four touchdowns on the season, but will find a way to score a total of three touchdowns this Sunday afternoon.
Fantasy owners, take note.
Oakland Will Beat Houston in a Shoot-out
19 of 50With both Darren McFadden and Arian Foster running wild, the Oakland Raiders and Houston Texans will be engaged in a good ole fashioned shoot-out.
Some will argue that Houston's offense is a bit better than Oakland's, but I'm picking the Raiders to outscore the Texans this weekend.
The Buffalo Bills Will Shock the Philadelphia Eagles
20 of 50The Buffalo Bills may be entering Week 5 after a devastating defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals, but Buffalo will prove to the entire NFL that they're a legitimate playoff contender.
On the other hand, with Buffalo showing that they're for real, the Philadelphia Eagles will leave Week 5 with an embarrassing four-game losing streak.
The Bills and Eagles Will Score a Lot of Points Against Each Other
21 of 50Call me crazy, but I foresee this game resulting in a shoot-out. In fact, I could see this game ending much like the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills battle from just a few short weeks ago.
If the Bills are going to win this game, they're going to have to outscore Michael Vick and Philly's high-flying offense.
I definitely think it can happen—what about you?
Michael Vick Will Not Be Sacked Once, the Eagles Will Still Lose
22 of 50With both teams scoring a lot of points Sunday, I can see Michael Vick having an amazing day—fantasy owners will be pleased.
In that case, I am actually going to predict that Vick will not be sacked a single time—you heard me correctly.
Vick has been sacked in every single game this season besides the team's Week 2 loss against the Atlanta Falcons.
Fred Jackson Will Outplay LeSean McCoy
23 of 50Fred Jackson and LeSean McCoy enter Week 5 with almost identical numbers with only six rushing yards separating the two in Jackson's favor.
Both running backs should have a solid showing in this shoot-out, but Jackson will walk away with not only the victory, but with the morale boost that he just out-played one of the league's best in McCoy.
I'm predicting at least 100 yards rushing for Jackson to go along with at least 50 yards receiving. Jackson is the key to Buffalo's offensive attack.
Philadelphia's Team Morale Will Hit an All-Time Low
24 of 50After this week's loss against the Buffalo Bills, if I were a Philadelphia Eagle player, coach or fan, I'd be completely embarrassed?
The Eagles the NFL's "Dream Team"? Yeah, right.
Philly will enter Week 6 with a pitiful four-game losing streak.
Kevin Kolb Will Threw Two Touchdowns to Larry Fitzgerald
25 of 50Kevin Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald may have developed a nice relationship with each other so far this season, but the two have yet to really explode for a lot of touchdowns in a single game this season.
Entering Week 5, the two have only connected for two touchdowns, but I'm predicting that will double against the lowly Minnesota Vikings.
The Minnesota Vikings Will Enter Week 6 Winless
26 of 50The Minnesota Vikings are simply not a very good football team, in fact they're a bad football team.
With that being said, the Arizona Cardinals will leave Week 5 with a victory, improving to 2-3, with the Vikings falling to a dreadful 0-5 record.
Donovan McNabb Will Be Pulled for Christian Ponder
27 of 50Each and every week I think that it's going to happen, but it still hasn't. But, I'm going to stick to my guns and predict that Donovan McNabb will be benched in favor of the rookie, Christian Ponder.
McNabb's mediocre 80.9 quarterback rating is worse than it looks—if you actually watch any of Minnesota's games, it's almost like McNabb is trying not to lose by playing it way too safe.
The door should open soon for Ponder.
The Indianapolis Colts Will Finally Get a Victory
28 of 50Whether Curtis Painter or Kerry Collins starts for the Indianapolis Colts, they're going to knock off the lowly Kansas City Chiefs.
Let's put it this way: The Colts cannot go 0-16, they're going to have to win eventually without Peyton Manning, so why not against the 1-3 Kansas City Chiefs?
Curtis Painter Will Start Sunday Against the Chiefs
29 of 50As the Indianapolis Colts are reported to be "uncommitted" on who will be the starting quarterback this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs, I'm simply going to predict that Curtis Painter gets the start over Kerry Collins.
Painter looked solid in this debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with two touchdowns thrown.
Indy Will Intercept Matt Cassel Threw Times
30 of 50Matt Cassel has simply been awful for the lowly 1-3 Kansas City Chiefs this season and his embarrassing play will continue against the Indianapolis Colts.
Believe it or not, the Colts aren't that bad of a football team without Peyton Manning. Granted, their offense is a mess but their defense is talented and can be effective.
Tarvaris Jackson Will Fail to Complete 50 Percent of His Passes Against NYG
31 of 50Tarvaris Jackson has actually quietly been playing well for the Seattle Seahawks this season with a quality 80.0 quarterback rating and five touchdowns thrown.
However this weekend against the New York Giants, Jackson will face one of the league's better defenses and will fail to complete 50 percent of his passes during his visit to New York.
The Seahawks Will Gives the Giants a Real Challenge
32 of 50Go ahead and call me crazy, especially after I just predicted that Tarvaris Jackson will complete less than 50 percent of his passes, but the Seattle Seahawks will be in Sunday's game against the New York Giants until the very end.
Seattle may be 1-3 and the Giants may be 3-1, but I just have a funny feeling for this one. This should be a close one, mark my words.
Alex Smith Will Outplay Josh Freeman
33 of 50I think that it's clear that the majority will agree that Josh Freeman is a better quarterback than Alex Smith. However, Smith will find a way to outplay during Week 5.
How you might ask—well move onto the next slide!
The 49ers Defense Will Force Josh Freeman to Throw Two Interceptions
34 of 50Last Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts was really Josh Freeman's only solid game this season, as it was the first game that he did not throw any interceptions.
This week Freeman will face a fierce and ferocious that has six interceptions on the season.
When this game comes to an end, the 49ers will have at least eight interceptions on the season.
Frank Gore Will Run the Ball Down Tampa Bay's Throat
35 of 50All in all, Frank Gore has been a major disappointment this season with last week against the Eagles being his only productive game of the season.
As Gore dominated against Philly last Sunday, his dominance will continue against Tampa Bay as I'm expecting at least 100 yards out of him with one or two touchdowns.
Patrick Willis Will Have Less Than Six Tackles Against the Buccaneers
36 of 50One can argue that Patrick Willis is the NFL's best linebacker, but he hasn't been the tackling machine that he was a year ago.
Willis has only six tackles last Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles and I'm going to predict that he ends up this week with only five or less.
Tim Tebow Will Throw a Pass Against the San Diego Chargers
37 of 50I have a good feeling about this one: Tim Tebow will finally throw a pass in 2011 against the San Diego Chargers.
I can see a scenario like this unfolding: The Chargers are simply man-handling the Denver Broncos and end up knocking Kyle Orton out of the game, which could open the door for Tim Tebow rather than Brady Quinn.
Philip Rivers Will Throw for at Least 400 Yards Against the Broncos
38 of 50Philip Rivers has been a passing machine for the San Diego Chargers this season with him throwing for 300-plus yards in three out of his four games this season.
Rivers has yet to throw for 400 yards this year, but he'll do so against one of the worst pass defenses, the Denver Broncos.
The Chargers Will Hold Denver to 10 or Less Points
39 of 50The San Diego Chargers are of the better defenses in the NFL and will be squaring off against the lowly Denver Broncos.
This may not be bold, but considering how high-scoring the league is now, the Chargers will not let Denver score more than 10 points Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots Will Outscore the Jets by 14 or More Points
40 of 50The New York Jets are a very good football team but appear to be a downward spiral as they're currently suffering a two-game losing streak.
The Patriots have one of the best, if not the best, offenses in the entire league and will certainly score a lot of points in this one.
I'm thinking a 45-24 victory in favor of New England.
Tom Brady Will Throw Two Interceptions but Still Win
41 of 50It's like Halloween with Tom Brady against the Jets; Brady is either unstoppable or he's simply awful.
However, this week I'm going to say that Brady is simply decent against the Jets.
With Brady playing average against the Jets, how can the Patriots score 45 points against them? Continue reading to find out!
New England's Rushing Attack Will Be Unstoppable Against the Jets
42 of 50Coming into Week 5, the New York Jets are ranked a very uncharacteristically 27th best in the NFL by the means of run defense—so what does that mean? New England is going to try to expose that and I'm predicting that they'll succeed.
The likes of Danny Woodhead, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Stevan Ridley will pick up the slack for Tom Brady's two interceptions and simply pound the ball against the Jets.
Mark Sanchez Will Only Throw One Interception Against New England
43 of 50Believe it or not, one interception is a very good day for Mark Sanchez.
Entering Week 5, Sanchez has played in two career regular season games against the Patriots and has been picked off an awful seven times.
Don't be shocked if Sanchez is picked off three times, but I'm going to say that he has a relatively decent game against the Patriots.
Darrelle Revis Will Not Shut-Down Wes Welker
44 of 50Only one can assume that Rex Ryan is going to line up Darrelle Revis on Wes Welker, as it will be New York's best player matching up against New England's best player—it only makes sense.
With the team's two best players playing against each other, who will prevail? Wes Welker will.
Welker has been unstoppable this season as he's caught an incredible 40 balls for 616 yards and five touchdowns.
The Atlanta Falcons Will Knock off the Green Bay Packers
45 of 50It's time for the Atlanta Falcons to get back to their winning ways but improving to 3-2 with an upset victory over the Green Bay Packers.
How can this happen? Well read on to find out!
Aaron Rodgers Will Be Intercepted Three Times
46 of 50Aaron Rodgers is still human, remember that, so he's got to have an off-day sooner later.
Rodgers and the Packers will travel down to Atlanta to square off against the Falcons, and I can guarantee that the Georgia Dome will be rocking— especially after last year's playoff loss against Green Bay.
Julio Jones Will Accumulate 100 Yards and Finally Score a Touchdown
47 of 50When will Julio Jones finally score his first career touchdown? This weekend against the Green Bay Packers.
Jones has had back-to-back 100 yard receiving games, but failed to get into the endzone. This week against the Packers, Jones will shred Green Bay's secondary and score his first ever NFL touchdown.
Believe it.
Detroit Will Be the Only Undefeated Team Left in the NFL
48 of 50As the Atlanta Falcons knock off the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions will take care of business on Monday night to improve to an incredible 5-0 record.
Who in the world would actually think that the Lions would be the only undefeated team left in the NFL? I know that I sure as hell didn't.
The Lions Will Shut-Down Matt Forte
49 of 50Matt Forte is coming off on of the greatest games every played by a running back as he ran for 205 yards against the Carolina Panthers—he will not duplicate his success this Monday against the Lions.
Detroit will shut-down Forte as last week as his only good game of the season.
Matthew Stafford Will Lead the League in Touchdowns by the End of Week 5
50 of 50I have a huge believer of Matthew Stafford and you all should become one now, if you're not already.
Stafford has thrown 11 touchdowns this season, which is good enough for third-best in the entire NFL.
After this week against the Chicago Bears, I'm predicting that Stafford will throw five touchdowns on Monday Night Football—that's right, five touchdowns, giving him a total of 16 on the season and good enough for league best.
