Detroit Lions: How Long Can Lions Stay Undefeated?
Believe it or not, the Detroit Lions are undefeated and will continue to rise atop the NFL power rankings. It has been 30 years since the Lions replicated their amazing start. With three road wins already under their belt and two wins over 2010 playoff teams, when will their winning streak end?
The Lions have proven that they are a dominant team, but just how long can they stay undefeated?
Monday Night vs. Chicago Bears
1 of 5The stage is set with the Lions undefeated heading into Monday Night Football against their division rival Chicago Bears. You couldn't ask for a better game, the stadium is going to be electric, the lights will be bright with the spotlight on Matthew Stafford and his Lions offense that is second to only the Green Bay Packers in scoring.
After two shocking comebacks in back-to-back weeks, I think the magic will continue on Monday night. We won't know which Bears team will show up, the one that got dominated by the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay or the well coached games versus the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers. Either way, I still think the Lions will win.
With at least one sack in every game, Detroit's defensive line has been as advertised and as Jay Cutler has been sacked 15 times through four games, I can't see him standing very long in this one.
The Matt Forte show was nice against the Panthers, but the Lions have yet to allow a 100-yard rusher and this week won't be their first.
I look for the Lions to come out pumped up for their first Monday Night Football game since 2001 and dominate this whole game to move on to 5-0.
Week 6 vs. the San Francisco 49ers
2 of 5Somehow the Alex Smith-led San Francisco 49ers are 3-1. After a convincing comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, who desperately needed a win, are the Niners for real?
This game will be the next biggest test for the Lions to keep their undefeated streak going. Jim Harbaugh has proved that he can win games, and making this team without much talent 3-1, he may be on his way to win Coach of the Year.
One of the main reasons the 49ers have been winning games is their league-leading turnover ratio of plus-8. Funny thing is, the Lions are right there, too, at plus-8.
This game will be fun to watch as masterminds Jim Schwartz and Harbaugh will make it a chess match, but once again I think the Lions will come out on top. The Lions will be in front of a sold-out Ford Field, where they always play great, and won't have to make a crazy comeback to win this one.
Week 10 vs. the Chicago Bears
3 of 5After two winnable games at home versus the Atlanta Falcons, and in Denver against the Broncos, the Lions have their much-needed Week 9 bye.
The timing for their bye couldn't be any better, because Week 10 they go on the road for their rematch with the Chicago Bears.
The Lions haven't won in Chicago since a 16-7 2007 victory, so this extra week to prepare will be huge not only physically but mentally as well.
If and when the Lions are undefeated heading into this matchup, I think they will break another losing streak and move to 9-0.
Thanksgiving vs. the Green Bay Packers
4 of 5The stage will be set, once again, on national TV with the two best teams in the NFL. Once again, you couldn't ask for a better Thanksgiving Day game.
The Lions and Packers could very well both be undefeated heading into this game, and it sure will be epic. Aaron Rodgers and his electrifying offense will go against Stafford's in what is sure to be a shootout.
Once again, the Lions will be playing at home against a sold out crowd watching what would be their first Thanksgiving Day victory since 2003, when they beat, who else, the Green Bay Packers.
There is a trend going on this year, with records and losing streaks being broken, and I think, in a very exciting game, the Lions will finally get another Thanksgiving Day victory and move on to 11-0.
Week 13 vs the New Orleans Saints
5 of 5I think this will be the Lions toughest game all year. After a grueling Thanksgiving matchup with the Packers, Detroit have to travel to New Orleans to face the Saints.
Drew Brees has been incredible this year, passing for over 350 yards a game and completing 69 percent of his passes. He has declined a little, throwing two interceptions in back-to-back games, and if he wants to beat the Lions he can't make those mistakes.
The Saints have yet to establish a true running game, but neither have the Lions so this game is sure to be another shootout.
With the flex scheduling for Sunday Night Football after Week 11, this game will be most likely moved to a prime time game and as much as I would love for the Lions to move to 12-0, I think this is where they will get their first loss of the season and move to 11-1 before their rematch with the Minnesota Vikings.
