College Football Rankings Week 6: Winners and Losers from Latest Polls
With most of the Top 25 teams winning on Saturday there wasn't much shakeup in the rankings when they were released early Sunday.
Only two teams were dropped from the rankings, but there were some teams who moved up and down a bit and a few teams who got screwed.
Here are the winners and losers in the latest college football polls.
Winner: Alabama Crimson Tide
1 of 6The Alabama Crimson Tide went to the Swamp and demolished the Florida Gators on Saturday by a score of 38-14.
Going into the weekend, the Crimson Tide were ranked No. 3 behind the LSU Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners—that changed after the victory over the Gators.
When the rankings were released earlier today, the Crimson tide leapfrogged the Sooners to become to No. 2 ranked team in both the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll.
It marked the second week in a row that the Sooners were jumped without losing a game, as the Tigers jumped them for the No. 1 spot in last week's rankings.
Winner: Wisconsin Badgers
2 of 6The Wisconsin Badgers gave the Nebraska Huskers a rude welcoming to the Big Ten conference with a 48-17 whooping on Saturday night in Madison.
Entering the weekend, the Badgers were ranked No. 7, but with the victory over the No. 8 Huskers, it was a forgone conclusion that they would rise.
When the rankings were released earlier today, the Badgers jumped three teams and moved into the No. 4 spot. Boise State, Oklahoma State and Stanford were all passed by the Badgers despite each team winning their game.
Don't be surprised if the Badgers continue to climb in the rankings as the road ahead looks as though they could run the table.
Winner: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
3 of 6The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made the biggest jump of any team in the newly released rankings moving from No. 21 to No. 13 with their fifth victory of the season on Saturday.
As the top rushing team in the nation, the Yellow Jackets have been able to beat the competition by pounding the ball down after down.
Don't expect them to keep this undefeated pace up as they have yet to face tough competition early in the season.
They face a tough Maryland team next week who could spoil the party for the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta.
Loser: Oklahoma Sooners
4 of 6Despite remaining undefeated the past two weeks, the Oklahoma Sooners have dropped two spots in the rankings to No. 3.
Last week, they were leapfrogged for the top spot by the LSU Tigers and this week, the Alabama Crimson Tide jumped them for the No. 2 spot in the rankings.
If anyone has a reason to cry foul with the rankings it is the Sooners, but they could prove the voters wrong with a victory in the Red River Rivalry over No. 11 Texas next Saturday.
Loser: South Florida Bulls
5 of 6The South Florida Bulls were ranked No. 16 heading into their game on Thursday night with the Pittsburgh Panthers and were dropped out of the rankings completely after the loss.
Even though they lost, the drop from No. 16 to unranked is a bit drastic.
With two 2-2 teams in the Top 25, Florida State and Texas A&M, the Bulls may have legit beef with the voters.
Expect the Bulls to make another appearance in the Top 25 after they reel off a few more wins in the Big East conference.
Loser: Texas Longhorns
6 of 6The Texas Longhorns jumped from No. 17 to No. 11 in the rankings after a dominating victory over Iowa State.
You are probably thinking how could a team who jumped that much be a loser?
Well, the Longhorns could make a case that they should be ranked higher.
They sit at 4-0 and have two teams ahead of them in the rankings with a loss, Arkansas and Oregon.
Oregon lost to the only ranked team it played and Arkansas just narrowly escaped Texas A&M with a four point victory.
The Longhorns are a loser in this week's rankings because they aren't getting the respect they deserve and should be ranked higher.
