College Football Week 5: Best and Worst Performances of the day
Much like most other weeks of the college football season, every play, every yard and every win makes a huge difference and can make or break a team's season.
As some Week 5 games have come to an end and others are coming close to joining them, here's a look at the best and worst performances of the day.
Best: Tyler Wilson
1 of 18If you only watched the first half the Arkansas and Texas A&M game, shame on you. You would have not seen this winner coming.
Once everything was said and done, Tyler Wilson had an outstanding day, throwing for 510 yards and three touchdowns. More importantly than the stats, Wilson helped rally the Razorbacks to a thrilling 42-38 win.
Best: Tyrann Mathieu
2 of 18Tyrann Mathieu continues to be the thorn in opponents' sides this year. Mathieu is part of a LSU defense that has been dominating teams so far this season, and he has been able to get into the end zone three times so far this season.
While the season is young, Tyrann Mathieu continues to be one of the main X factors for the LSU Tigers.
Worst: Texas A&M
3 of 18There may have been no bigger loser this week then the Texas A&M Aggies. For the second straight week, the Aggies held a double-digit lead going into the half, and unfortunately had the game come to an end with them being on the losing side.
Losing a 20-3 lead last week was bad, losing their 35-17 lead this week was even worse.
What they must do is find a way to get refocused and back on track because the way they have lost these past two games, could send most teams into a downward spiral.
Best: Ron Zook
4 of 18Coming into this season, Ron Zook was in hot water, and his job was on the line. So far this season, the Fighting Illini have jumped out to a 5-0 start and have cooled off the hotseat that Zook is on.
If the Illini can find a way to compete with the Big Ten powers like they did with ASU, Zook could quickly get himself out of jeopardy.
Worst: Baylor Defense
5 of 18While Robert Griffin was picking apart the Kansas State defense, the Baylor defense was also getting picked apart. To make things worse, when the Bears needed their defense to step up the most, they failed to answer the bell.
Despite the outstanding performance on offense, the Bears were completely let down by their defense today.
Best: Robert Griffin
6 of 18Despite the outcome of this week's game, Robert Griffin continues to impress anyone who watches him and has the Heisman talks grow louder and louder.
This week against Kansas State, Griffin threw for 343 yards and five touchdowns and continued to complete pass after pass.
Worst: Minnesota
7 of 18No matter if you look at the offense, defense or special teams, the Minnesota Golden Gophers did not show up this week when they traveled to Michigan.
The offense failed to put up more then 200 yards of offense, and the defense was continually shredded by the Michigan offense.
Regardless of how well Michigan played, this kind of effort would not have been good enough against anyone in the nation.
Worst: Arizona's Defense
8 of 18For the fourth straight week, Arizona went up against a solid opponent, and for the fourth straight week, the defense got beat soundly.
While they have had to face teams like Oklahoma State, Stanford, Oregon, and now USC, the Arizona defense has not allowed the team to stay in games and are a huge reason why the Wildcats currently sit at 1-4.
Best: Matt Barkley
9 of 18A week after dropping an important game in the Pac-12 South division, USC came home and went up against a beaten up Arizona team. The result was Matt Barkley had a career day against their defense.
Against the Zona defense, Barkley threw for 468 yards and four scores. The total yardage was enough to set a USC school record for passing yardsan impressive accomplishment for anyone.
Worst: Colorado
10 of 18Congratulations are in order for Colorado today as they have taken over for Washington State as the worst team in the Pac-12.
Despite being new to the conference, Colorado has struggled week in and week out, and it is clear that they have a lot of catching up to do with the rest of the conference.
Best: Michael Dyer
11 of 18Michael Dyer was a complete workhorse this week as he carried the ball 41 times for 141 yards and a score. More importantly, Dyer helped lead Auburn to a 16-13 win over South Carolina and served notice to the rest of the SEC that they are not dead yet.
Worst: Stephen Garcia
12 of 18If Coach Spurrier wasn't frustrated enough with Stephen Garcia, things may hit an all-time high after today's game.
With weapons like Alshon Jeffery and Marcus Lattimore, loosening up the defense should be easy but after a 9-of-23 and two-interception performance, Garcia may not be the starter for Week 6.
Best: J.J. McDermott
13 of 18SMU snapped a 22-home game winning streak that TCU had going, and it was based on the arm of J.J. McDermott.
McDermott put in an amazing performance throwing for 349 yards and four touchdowns. More importantly, he did not get rattled by the TCU comeback and capped off the win in overtime.
Best: Clemson Tigers
14 of 18Not many teams appear to be playing better then the Clemson Tigers. Today, the Tigers put another top team down by beating Virginia Tech.
Over the past three weeks, Clemson has defeated Auburn, Florida State, and now Virginia Tech, and are in the drivers seat for an appearance in the ACC title game.
Worst: Frank Beamer
15 of 18While all the credit in the world needs to be given to Clemson for an outstanding road performance, Virginia Tech looked like a team that expected to roll into their home stadium and walk out with a victory.
Very rarely does a Frank Beamer team look unprepared, but that is exactly how the Hokies looked in their game against the Tigers.
Best: Jacory Harris
16 of 18Like clockwork, Jacory Harris continued his up-and-down play, and this week, it was back up as the Hurricanes took on Bethune-Cookman.
This week, Harris threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns and was extremely efficient. The Hurricanes will need a very similar performance next week at Virginia Tech.
Worst: Ball State
17 of 18Ball State had to know it was going to be rough going up against Oklahoma but they walked into this game and rolled over.
The Sooners ended up winning this game 62-3 and the Cardinals were only able to put up 214 total yards.
Best: Landry Jones
18 of 18Despite the fact that they were playing Ball State, Landry Jones looked awfully good against the Cardinals.
During their Week 5 game, Jones threw for 425 yards and five touchdowns and has the Sooners offense rolling into their rivalry game against Texas.
