Texas A&M vs. Arkansas: Why Tyler Wilson is Hands Down the Best QB in the SEC
Quick! What has quarterback Tyler Wilson done that former QB Ryan Mallett never did in this career at Arkansas?
How about pass for 500 yards in a game.
Wilson had one of the most impressive games of any quarterback this season, passing for 510 yards and three touchdowns in a come-from-behind 42-38 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday.
Perhaps even more impressive than his yardage total was the fact that Wilson guided Arkansas to points on four of six second-half drives in the come-back win.
With what has been a down year in quarterback play throughout the SEC, Tyler Wilson looks to have moved his name on top of the list.
Let's break down three reasons why Wilson is hands down the best QB in the SEC this year.
1. Yards, Yards, Yards
1 of 3Tyler Wilson threw for a school-record 510 yards, leading Arkansas from an 18-point halftime deficit to a 42-38 victory on Saturday.
Yes, that's right, you read that correctly, 510 yards!
That number shattered the former record set by Ryan Mallett last season.
On the year, Wilson has passed for 1,517 yards and 10 touchdowns in five games. Who else in the SEC can match those numbers?
2. Who Else Is There?
2 of 3Tyler Wilson was outstanding today in Arkansas' win over Texas A&M.
Is he best quarterback in the country? No, not even close.
But is he the best quarterback in the SEC? Well, who else is he really competing against?
The other top quarterbacks in the SEC this year have been Aaron Murray (Georgia), Tyler Bray (Tennessee) and Jarrett Lee (LSU). Not one of them have over 1,500 yards after five games; that's for certain.
3. High Percentage Passes
3 of 3As impressive as the numbers are for Tyler Wilson, perhaps, the most impressive statistic on his resume is his passing percentage this season.
After five games, Wilson has completed 111-of-172 pass attempts, which is a 65 percent pass completion rating.
Even in the Razorbacks' ugly loss to Alabama last week, Wilson still completed 63 percent of his passes against what is considered by many to be the most dominant secondary in all of college football this season.
The numbers certainly don't lie when it comes to this big-time SEC quarterback.
