Texas A&M Video: Watch Aggies Dazzle with Statue of Liberty Play
If you haven't seen this brilliant play call by Mike Sherman and the Texas A&M Aggies, then I highly suggest you watch this video.
Go ahead, turn down the lights, get some popcorn and sit back and enjoy, my friends—you're in for a show(go to the 38 second mark in the video highlights).
It was a great play, but the end result of the game wasn't good for the Aggies, as they fell to the unranked Arkansas Razorbacks by a 42-38 score in a game they should have won.
Texas A&M was up 35-17 at halftime and looked to have firm control of the game.
The Razorbacks came back in the second half to out-score them 25-3 and beat the No. 14 team in the nation in what is sure to go down as one of the better comebacks of this year.
If only they ran this beauty of a play every time they took the field, they would have held on to that lead no problem.
The statue of liberty play is not only one of the tougher plays to pull off in football, but it's one of the most effective when done right.
As you can see, Aggies quarterback Ryan Tannehill makes a beautiful fake pass with his right hand. That got all the defenders moving toward the left flat, where they thought one of the receivers was running a screen route.
What you didn't see is Tannehill actually handing the ball off to running back Christine Michael, who just had to make one move through the line and bust off a 48-yard touchdown.
The Aggies called it at the perfect time, and it worked to perfection.
Sadly, the final score does not reflect the quality of this play call.
Give me your tired, your poor, and give me your end zone.
Touchdown.
