College Football Picks Week 5: 3 Teams Ready To Rebound with Ferocity

Ryan RudnanskyJun 5, 2018

Every top team goes through its fair share of struggles, whether it runs into a better opponent or simply plays a bad game.

But what's that saying again?

"It's not how many times you fall down....but how many times you get up!"

The true winners are the teams who look adversity in the face and challenge it to a rematch.

Here are three teams ready to rebound in Week 5 of the college football season (ranked by how impressive their rebound will be).

3. West Virginia

West Virginia has been struggling running the ball this season, which came into full effect against LSU in Week 4. The Mountaineers lost 47-21 against arguably the best team in the nation, and quarterback Geno Smith had to throw a whopping 65 times.

Part of that was the fact that the Tigers jumped out to a 13-0 lead, but the Mountaineers closed to within six points with a touchdown in the second quarter, and that is when a good running game—keeping the LSU offense off the field—would have been beneficial.

The Mountaineers, however, face Bowling Green on Saturday and should get back on track there.

2. USC

The Trojans are a hard team to peg down. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Matt Barkley, they found their running game with Marc Tyler and were playing very well heading into their matchup with Arizona State.

Then they got walloped.

The Sun Devils made USC look bad in Week 4. The Trojans' pass defense and rush defense were exposed and even their special teams got hit hard, ceding a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the opening minutes of the game.

What Week 4 showed me was that USC is a fringe top-25 team, but may be on that fringe for the rest of the season.

They do, however, have an opportunity to rebound this week against a 1-3 Arizona team that has gotten blown out by ranked opponents. USC is certainly good enough to beat Arizona.

1. Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies did give up a 20-3 halftime lead against Oklahoma State in Week 4, but the reality is that the Cowboys are one of the most explosive offenses in the country and may have the best quarterback-receiver duo in Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon. It's going to be difficult for any defense to contain the Cowboys this season.

The Aggies are still a good defense, they simply ran into a better team in Week 4 that is now ranked No. 7 in the nation. The Aggies are still a top-15 team (ranked No. 14 in the AP poll) and should be able to rebound against No. 18 Arkansas, who only beat Troy by 10 points and got wrecked by Alabama.

I think the Aggies will prove their Week 4 loss was due more to the Cowboys' offense, not the Aggies' defense.
