Carmelo Anthony: Will Melo Win MVP After Covert Surgeries?

Brandon GalvinJun 7, 2018

Carmelo Anthony will win MVP when the NBA resumes.

Anthony recently revealed that he had knee and elbow surgeries for the first time in his life, according to New York Post’s Marc Berman.

"

“He revealed more elements to his mysterious offseason, disclosing last night he had knee and elbow surgery simultaneously in May…

The Knicks never announced the procedures. Melo said he had arthroscopic surgery on the left knee and an elbow procedure, as he suffers from chronic bursitis.

‘Can't tell, can you?’ Melo said...

Anthony said it was the first time in his life he's had surgery.

‘I did both of them,’ Anthony said. "They were bothering me seven years.’

Anthony said the procedures came at the same time. The Post had reported in June that he was shut down in the offseason by the Knicks to rest his elbow bursititis, but Anthony had never complained about knee soreness.

He did not return to the basketball court until August when Team Melo, representing Baltimore, started its barnstorming tour. The 6-8 small forward claims he's down to 230 pounds - which is four pounds less than he was last season.

‘I would be coming back at training camp, if there is one, less than than I left last year,’ Anthony said. ‘I feel good mentally and physically,’” Anthony said according to Berman.

At first glance, it’s tough to be happy when your superstar and most important player towards winning a championship has surgery.

Then you dig deeper and realize that this is a blessing for Knicks fans.

Finally free of pain, Anthony is going to tear the roof off the NBA. If we thought he was incredible before, especially after his postseason heroics against Boston, we’re in store to watch the greatest Knickerbocker ever.

Melo will be looser on the court with superior range of motion. He will no longer have to compensate for the pain in his elbow and knee. He should generate greater elevation for his shot and drive to the hoop with more authority if his knee is stronger.

The improved strength in his knee will allow Melo to be more explosive on both sides of the court. His first step towards the basket will be quicker. He'll be able to get around his defender quicker to get to the hoop, but he'll also be able to fake out his man with more ease to create easier scoring opportunities.

If he feels like he has a new and energized elbow, we could see him throw some more ‘bows down in the post to off his defenders. It’s certainly going to be fun to see this physical monster dominate everywhere.

If you thought he was fearless diving for the ball against Paul Pierce in the postseason, imagine what he'll do now that he's pain free. We must just see a 230 pound Allen Iverson roughing up the opposition for loose balls.

Melo is going to put on a clinic unlike we have ever seen out of him.

Knicks fans must hope this physical improvement will trigger something mentally that will see him pass the ball more. Ball movement is the glaring weakness in Melo’s game.

It is imperative he defers to his teammates to get them involved in the offense throughout each contest, which will only catapult him further to the top of the MVP food chain.

Right now, all eyes are on the labor agreement. It remains to be seen if we will even have an NBA season that could see Melo win MVP.

"

“’We don't know how powerful we are right now,’ Anthony said of the union. ‘We support Billy (Hunter) 100 percent. We got to stick together as players. In the meantime, we'll keep doing stuff like this, keep having basketball games, keep playing and giving fans what they want. It's not everything they want. They want a season,’” said Anthony according to Berman.

"

Still, it’s reassuring for Knicks fans that Anthony is back on the court and getting healthier by the day.

He is gearing up for the best season of his career in Mike D’Antoni’s offense. Whenever the season gets under way, we’re going to see a rejuvenated Anthony. He’s going to build on the early success he had with the Knicks and prove to the world he is even better than we've ever seen.

Melo has been an MVP candidate in the past, but he is now healthier to dominate on the court and will bring the Knicks towards the top of the East. His newfound physical freedom will catapult him above the likes of LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Derrick Rose and Kobe Bryant in the MVP race.
