Toronto Blue Jays New Logo: The Most Ridiculous Logo in Each AL Team's History

Robert KnapelSep 22, 2011

The Toronto Blue Jays apparently took a cue from the Miami Marlins and their new logo has been leaked to the public.

Luckily for the Blue Jays, their new logo will  not be as maligned as the Miami Marlins logo. The rumored new Blue Jays logo is a throwback to their original logo that was used from 1977 until 1996.

May people will agree that the design is among the best logos that the Blue Jays have ever used.

With logo redesigns, teams have gotten it right, as it appears the Blue Jays have, and teams have gotten it wrong. The following is a look at the worst logos in the history of each current AL team.

(All logos courtesy of Chris Creamer's SportsLogos.net.)

Baltimore Orioles: 1966

1 of 14

The Baltimore Orioles won the World Series in 1966. They also had one of the game's most disappointing alternate logos that season. This logo came from the Orioles scorecard.

It appears as if the Oriole came from a child's coloring book and the kid who was in charge of filling in the colors got too distracted by what was on TV to finish coloring it in. At least he colored in the lines.

Boston Red Sox: 1950-1959

2 of 14

The most amazing thing about this logo is that the Boston Red Sox chose to use it for a whole decade.

It is one of the goofiest looking logos that a major league team has had and it is a shame that one of the game's most storied franchises made this mistake.

Imagine what would have happened if the Red Sox had a mascot walking around the stands in this costume. Luckily, we do not have to imagine much as the Amarillo Sox, an independent league team, had a mascot that looked very similar to this Red Sox logo. Not surprisingly, he did not last long.

Chicago White Sox: 1918

3 of 14

There is a pretty good reason why the Chicago White Sox only used this logo for one season. There is just too much going on.

They used a similar logo the year before, but it did not have the four socks on it. With the socks on the logo, there is just too much going on and they are very distracting.

Cleveland Indians: 1933-1945

4 of 14

There were a couple of choices for the Cleveland Indians. People will argue that Chief Wahoo belongs here because it is an offensive logo.

However, this logo has a slight edge. This looks like something that was drawn by a kid in his grade school art class. The color isn't even filled in evenly throughout the logo.

Detroit Tigers: 1927-1928

5 of 14

The Detroit Tigers' Old English "D" is a classic logo. However, they have gone away from it a number of times in their history. Most of these changes have been failures.

This is certainly one of those examples. It looks like this logo is supposed to be a tiger but it seems more like an overweight house cat that is yawning. No one is getting intimidated by this logo.

Kansas City Royals: 1971-2001

6 of 14

The Kansas City Royals have actually done a good job of not creating a bad logo during their history. While the Royals logo is not one of the best in the league, it is not bad at all. They have always had classy logos.

This one gets the nod over the other Royals logos because the "KC" looks better as the primary focus of the logo than the "R" does.

Los Angeles Angels: 1997-2001

7 of 14

Disney bought the Anaheim Angels in 1997 and designed changes to the team's logo and jersey. The new logo was actually designed by Disney studios.

Not surprisingly, the design is more fitting for a Disney movie than a baseball team.

Minnesota Twins: 1972

8 of 14

The two jovial men in the logo are supposed to represent the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, which is where the Minnesota Twins get their name from.

However, this is what happens when it seems like the designer tries to put together a logo as quickly as he possibly can. It seems as if little effort went into this logo.

New York Yankees: 1905

9 of 14

The New York Yankees have the most classic logo in baseball and in all of sports. In fact, to find their worst logo, one must go back to the time when they were not known as the Yankees, but rather as the New York Highlanders.

It seems as if the team was toying with an idea that would be close to the Yankees' iconic logo. It was a good try, but this one just looks a bit sloppy.

Oakland Athletics: 1994

10 of 14

The elephant has been a part of the Athletics' history since their early days in Philadelphia and there is a great story behind it. However, this logo is just a shame.

Yes, the Oakland Athletics play in California and relaxing in the California sun is fantastic, but that aspect  should not be incorporated into the logo. This logo looks absolutely ridiculous.

Seattle Mariners: 1987-1992

11 of 14

There is not exactly that much wrong with this logo except for one thing: It is very, very simple.

It seems as if the Mariners went with the safest design that they could find. All they did was throw an "M's" on a baseball and then they called it a day.

Tampa Bay Rays: 1998-2000

12 of 14

This logo comes back from the olden days when the Tampa Rays were a bit more devilish. However, the team, as well as the logo, has gotten nicer since then.

Working the Ray into the logo was a nice touch, but there have to be a lot of questions about the color scheme. There are at least four different shades of blue in the logo in addition to the green, yellow, black and white.

Texas Rangers: 1977-1982

13 of 14

There are two Rangers franchises in sports.

One of them is much more famous and has a much more storied history than the other. It seems as if the Texas Rangers tried to copy the New York Rangers with this logo.

Check out the New York Rangers' shield. See all of the similarities? Same shape, same color scheme.

Toronto Blue Jays: 2000-2003

14 of 14

The Toronto Blue Jays originally unveiled this logo as an alternate in 2000. After using it as an alternate for three years, the team decided to make it the official logo.

It only lasted one season. The Blue Jay looks like he is on steroids and tried to look like a BAMF with his maple leaf tattoo.
