Oklahoma Football: Despite Easy Schedule, Oklahoma Should Receive Title Shot

Joe PenkalaSep 17, 2011

Being the preseason No.1 team in the nation definitely has its benefits as Oklahoma will likely be able to roll through their entire schedule before being challenged in November.

Some may argue that their game today at Florida State will increase their strength of schedule, but after last year's 30-point beatdown in Norman, the Sooners are looking to roll into Florida and walk out with a big victory.

After today's game, here is what remains for the Sooners this season:

When reviewing the schedule, you can see that Oklahoma should beat Missouri and Ball State with ease. Going into their game against Texas, the Longhorns offense is still in disarray which should allow the Sooners to roll through that game.

After the Texas game, wins await against Kansas, Texas Tech and Kansas State. The game against Texas A&M would be a close game if it was on the road, but the Sooners are virtually unstoppable at home.

So with that being said, all that separates the Sooners and an undefeated season is a road game against rival Oklahoma State.

At the end of the year, what will ultimately save the Sooners should they be undefeated is you will never see a national championship game, with the BCS in place, with two teams from the same conference.

With the SEC likely to have one team go, that leaves the ACC, Big 10 and Pac-12 as likely conferences to send the challenger. Ultimately, those conferences will not produce a worthy opponent, leaving the Sooners an easy road to the BCS title game.
