College Football Schedule Week 3: Great Games to Keep You on Glued to Your Couch
The third Saturday of the 2011 college football is loaded with exciting matchups that will keep you fixed in front of your TV all day long.
But, as is often the case, it can be tough to figure out which games to play when there are so many on the tube.
So which games should you keep track of on another busy weekend?
Early: No. 21 Auburn at Clemson, 12:00 AM ET, ABC
If you're into Tiger-on-Tiger action (and really, who isn't these days?), then be sure to tune in when Auburn takes its act to Clemson on Saturday.
The defending BCS national champions have been Cardiac 'Cats thus far, earning wins at home over Utah State and Mississippi State by way of some late-game heroics. Clemson also finds itself at 2-0, though against somewhat less resistant competition (Troy and Wofford).
This one came down to the wire last season, when Clemson came up short on a game-winning touchdown in overtime and subsequently struck out on a field goal to tie it up. With the way these teams have played thus far this season, expect this game to come down to the wire with Auburn pulling out a heart-pounding win.
Afternoon: No. 15 Michigan State at Notre Dame, 3:30 PM ET, NBC
The Spartans are 2-0 against underwhelming competition but have won six of their last seven games in South Bend. The Fighting Irish, on the other hand, are 0-2 with back-to-back three-point defeats by way of 10 total turnovers in just two games.
Forget what the oddsmakers have to say: Michigan State will win this one, but Kirk Cousins and company won't win easily. Look for another nail biter in the fight for the Megaphone with Sparty coming away victorious.
Evening: No. 1 Oklahoma at No. 5 Florida State, 8 PM ET, ABC
(Insert Keith Jackson catchphrase here!) This one's got everything you could possibly ask of an early-season non-conference game: tremendous talent, national title contenders, more tradition than you can shake a stick at.
The Sooners dismantled the Seminoles in Norman last season, 47-17. This year's edition figures to be much closer, if for no other reason than the fact that the game is in Tallahassee this time. That being said, look for Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy candidate tandem of Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles to pile up points against a talented but largely untested 'Noles D.
Late Night: No. 6 Stanford at Arizona, 10:45 PM ET, ESPN
For you night owls on the east coast, ESPN will feature a fun Pac-12 tilt between Stanford and Arizona to close out a busy day in college football. Andrew Luck will look to lacerate the Wildcats defense, which got picked apart last week at Oklahoma State by their dynamic duo of Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon.
The Cardinal crushed the 'Cats in Palo Alto last season, 42-17, and figure to do more of the same, sans Jim Harbaugh, on Saturday night.
