Premier League Betting Preview: Arsenal and Wolves Among the Hot Tips

Kevin HoughSep 16, 2011

As the Premier League season enters Week 5, form lines are beginning to emerge. Some clubs have started the season in remarkable fashion, while more have struggled for goals and others for clean sheets.

To the more discerning fan, these form lines might represent a chance to supplement the weekend's funds. Here's three bets which may lead to a profitable weekend.

The sight of a troupe of fans marching towards the stadium and demanding your removal is not what a manager needs as he prepares his side for the arrival of Robin Van Persie and company. However, it is what will await Blackburn boss Steve Kean tomorrow.

After a summer which promised big names only heralded the arrival of Yakubu and David Goodwillie, early season performances have done little to allay supporter disconcertment.

Arsenal showed signs of gelling in Dortmund and Rovers have conceded in their four games thus far, so it's difficult to envisage them containing the dynamism and verve of the visitors' attack.

When they inevitably concede, it's even tougher to see them retaliating at the other end. On all known form, Blackburn should be chicken meal for the Gunners, and at 4/5, should form the fulcrum of the weekend's bet.

While Alex McLeish's intentions at Villa Park were never subject to much debate, Newcastle's pragmatic start to the campaign has been a surprise.

The nominally erratic and inconsistent Geordies have been a bastion of frugality, coughing up just one goal in their opening four games. It hints at a tight game at Villa Park tomorrow afternoon, while under 2.5 goals, more value might be found in the draw at 5/2.

The sides have five draws between them for their eight games this season and it would be no surprise if they augmented that figure tomorrow.

Wolves have started the season in impressive form, with seven points from their four games thus far. Mick McCarthy seems focused on a more adventurous approach this season, playing with two strikers, two wingers and Jamie O'Hara creating through the centre.

QPR wasted several decent chances on Monday night against Newcastle and with no real striker of proven Premier League quality, Roger Johnson and his men will fancy an upset. That should leave the way clear for Wolves to open them up once or twice at the other end and, at 19/20, form the third leg of the bet.

The treble pays just over 11/1.
