50 Bold Predictions for the NFL's Week 2
Wow. Taking a look back at the NFL's Week 1, I am simply in shock at how entertaining it really was. It is certainly safe to say the NFL is 100 percent a passing league, as the week set an NFL record for passing yards in just a week at 7,842 yards. Pretty amazing stuff.
Entering Week 2, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that it's going to be just as entertaining as the first week.
With that being said, here are 50 bold predictions for the NFL's Week 2.
Cam Newton Will Throw for 300-Plus Yards Against Green Bay
1 of 52Cam Newton put on a show during his NFL debut, as he set an NFL record for most passing yards in a rookie debut at an incredible 422 yards.
The Carolina Panthers are arguably no match against the Green Bay Packers, and if the Panthers want to have any chance of winning Sunday, they're going to have to score points.
With that being said, Newton is going to pass for 300-plus yards.
Aaron Rodgers Will Throw at Least Four Touchdowns Against the Panthers
2 of 52The reigning Super Bowl MVP threw three touchdowns last Thursday against the New Orleans Saints, so why can't he throw four or more touchdowns this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers?
He's that good, and Carolina's secondary is no match for Green Bay's passing attack.
Carolina Will Give Green Bay a Run for Its Money
3 of 52On paper, the Green Bay Packers are light years ahead of the Carolina Panthers, but the NFL is a league of upsets, and the Panthers could come close to accomplishing one.
Granted, I have no real stats to back this up, making this a true bold prediction.
Mark Sanchez Will Throw for 400 Yards Against the Jacksonville Jaguars
4 of 52Mark Sanchez was pretty impressive in his season debut, as he tossed 335 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense is obviously a few steps behind the Dallas Cowboys, as they gave up 263 yards against the aging Matt Hasselbeck. I'm predicting Sanchez will have a field day against the Jags with his top weapons Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress.
The New York Jets Will Run for Fewer Than 100 Yards
5 of 52The New York Jets' rushing attack will struggle for another week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jets ran for only 45 yards last week against the Dallas Cowboys and will be facing the Jaguars, who held Tennessee's Chris Johnson to only 24 yards a week ago.
Luke McCown Will Throw Five or More Interceptions Against the Jets
6 of 52Let's put it this way: Luke McCown should not be an NFL starting quarterback; he's simply not that good.
McCown will be squaring off against one the league's best defenses, the New York Jets, and should struggle.
Five interceptions? I think so.
Plaxico Burress Will Have Two or More Touchdown Receptions
7 of 52Plaxico Burress played remarkably well against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, as he caught four passes for 72 yards and one touchdown.
This week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, I can easily see Burress scoring at least two touchdowns.
Colt McCoy Will Shred Indy's Secondary
8 of 52Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns had a rather shaky opening weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals with a 27-17 loss; most figured the Browns would walk all over the Bengals.
McCoy did throw two touchdowns but completed only 47.5 percent of his passes.
This week against the Indianapolis Colts, McCoy will have a field day, as he's facing a team that lost 34-7 the week before.
Greg Little Will Have Close to 100 Yards Receiving Against the Colts
9 of 52As Colt McCoy will be tearing apart Indianapolis' defense, Greg Little will be his favorite target.
Little had a silent debut against the Cincinnati Bengals, as he recorded just one reception for 12 yards, but I'm boldly predicting that the rookie will finish with close to 100 receiving yards.
Kerry Collins Will Throw Three or More Touchdowns Against Cleveland
10 of 52Kerry Collins just looked out of place during his debut with the Indianapolis Colts, as he completed 51.6 percent of his passes while fumbling the ball twice.
Collins will square off against the Cleveland Browns, a team that let Andy Dalton complete 66.7 percent of his passes before leaving the game with an injury.
Collins may not be a superstar, but he's still a serviceable passer.
Jamaal Charles Will Run Crazy Against the Lions
11 of 52Jamaal Charles and the Kansas City Chiefs opened 2011 with a disappointing showing against the Buffalo Bills and will look to bounce back against the Detroit Lions—a much more talented squad than the Bills.
However, I am going to say that Charles will be unstoppable against the Lions—just a hunch!
Matthew Stafford Will Have Another 300-Yard Passing Game
12 of 52Matthew Stafford's performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend was brilliant, as he completed 72.7 percent of his passes while throwing for 305 yards.
This Sunday, against the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that let Ryan Fitzpatrick throw four touchdowns, Stafford will have a dominating performance.
Tarvaris Jackson Will Throw for 300 Yards Against the Steelers
13 of 52Tarvaris Jackson simply wasn't really effective in his debut with the Seattle Seahawks against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday, as he completed 21 of his 37 passes for only 197 yards.
Jackson and the Seahawks will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, a team that suffered an embarrassing loss against their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens.
If 14 quarterbacks threw for 300 or more yards in Week 1, why can't T-Jax be one in Week 2?
Rashard Mendenhall Will Not Run for 100 Yards
14 of 52The Seattle Seahawks prevented Frank Gore from accumulating 100 yards on the ground, and I expect Rashard Mendenhall to fail to reach that mark.
Mendenhall ran for only 45 yards a week ago against the Ravens, and I do not see it getting much better.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Will Enter Week 3 Winless
15 of 52You heard it here first: The Seattle Seahawks will beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, creating one of the greatest upsets of 2011.
Why am I boldly predicting this? Well, perhaps I just have a hunch that the Steelers will not take care of the football for yet another week after having seven turnovers against the Ravens.
Donovan McNabb Will Be Pulled in Favor of Christian Ponder
16 of 52Did you happen to see Donovan McNabb's pitiful performance against the San Diego Chargers? He completed seven of his 15 passes for only 39 yards. Yes, that's right—39 yards.
McNabb is at the end of his career, and Christian Ponder may start sooner rather than later—perhaps this upcoming week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Josh Freeman Will Torch Minnesota's Secondary
17 of 52Fourteen quarterbacks had a 300-yard passing game last week and Josh Freeman was not one of them.
The Minnesota Vikings allowed 335 yards passing against Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers, and Freeman will fare rather nicely against the Vikings this Sunday.
Mark Ingram Will Rush for 100-Plus Yards Against the Chicago Bears
18 of 52The New Orleans Saints threw the ball a remarkable 49 times against the Green Bay Packers last Thursday, but I have a feeling they'll try to be a bit more balanced against the Chicago Bears this upcoming week.
With that being said, the rookie out of Alabama, Mark Ingram, will record his first ever 100-yard rushing game against the Bears.
Jay Cutler Will Throw for 400-Plus Yards
19 of 52This is definitely bold: Jay Cutler will throw for 400-plus yards against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday.
Why? Because the Saints secondary is pretty pedestrian and Cutler has a huge arm and will tear it up.
Aaron Rodgers threw for 312 yards against the Saints last Thursday, and I boldly predict Cutler will outdo him this Sunday.
Buffalo Will Upset the Oakland Raiders
20 of 52Believe it: The Buffalo Bills will record yet another upset against the Oakland Raiders this Sunday.
The Bills already knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs and will knock off another AFC West team on Sunday.
Jason Campbell Will Throw Two or More Interceptions Against the Bills
21 of 52The only way that the Buffalo Bills can upset the Oakland Raiders is if the Raiders commit too many turnovers—meaning if Jason Campbell throws any interceptions.
This is nothing but a gut feeling, which makes it bold, but Campbell will be picked off two or more times against the Bills.
Fred Jackson Will Run All over Oakland
22 of 52Fred Jackson posted a remarkable performance last Sunday against Kansas City, as he ran for 112 yards on 20 carries.
If the Bills want to beat the Raiders this Sunday, they're going to have to have a very effective run game, starting with Jackson.
Rex Grossman Will Throw for 300-Plus Yards Against the Cardinals
23 of 52If Cam Newton can throw for 422 yards, why can't Rex Grossman?
The Arizona Cardinals' pass defense appears to be pretty poor, and Grossman and the Washington Redskins need to take advantage of it.
Kevin Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald Will Connect for 10 More Passes
24 of 52Kevin Kolb was only able to complete three passes to Larry Fitzgerald last Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, but I figure that the Cardinals will certainly game-plan to get Fitz the ball a whole lot more.
Expect 10 or more receptions against the Washington Redskins this Sunday.
Tim Hightower Will Torch His Former Team
25 of 52As Rex Grossman throws for 300 or more yards, Tim Hightower will run for at least 100 yards. Yes, the Redskins will have an offensive explosion against the below-average Arizona Cardinals defense.
Hightower, a former Arizona Cardinal, should be highly motivated this Sunday.
Chris Johnson Will Not Accumulate 100 Yards Against the Ravens
26 of 52Obviously Chris Johnson's holdout really worked out for him, as he ran for only 24 yards last weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
CJ2K will be matching up against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, one of the best defenses in the league, and will struggle tremendously.
Ray Rice Will Rush for Around 200 Yards Against the Titans
27 of 52Ray Rice was simply a bowling ball against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday, as he ran for 107 yards on just 19 carries while scoring one touchdown.
Rice will be facing off against a much less talented team, the Tennessee Titans, and should have no problem running for at least 150 yards.
Fantasy owners, take note.
Matt Hasselbeck Will Be Picked off Three or More Times Against Baltimore
28 of 52No matter how much I like Matt Hasselbeck, I firmly believe he'll struggle tremendously against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend.
Hasselbeck was intercepted once against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday, and I'm predicting he'll be intercepted at least three times this Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys Will Start the Season 0-2
29 of 52Man, Jerry Jones is going to be furious! An 0-2 start? That's just unacceptable.
Why am I boldly predicting that the San Francisco 49ers will upset the Dallas Cowboys? Well, after last week's performance against the New York Jets, I just have zero faith in Tony Romo's decision-making abilities.
Tony Romo Will Be Intercepted Three or More Times
30 of 52Things are only going to get worse for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, as they'll eventually just spiral out of control.
Romo threw a very costly interception last week against the Jets, and I'm simply going to say that he has zero confidence entering Week 2 and will just stink up the field.
Alex Smith Will Have a Better Quarterback Rating Than Tony Romo
31 of 52With the San Francisco 49ers upsetting the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo being picked off three times, it only makes sense that Alex Smith will post a better quarterback rating than Romo, right?
I believe so.
Houston Will Score Close to 50 Points Against the Miami Dolphins
32 of 52Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans' high-flying offense will put up huge numbers against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday, much like what the New England Patriots did last week on Monday Night Football.
Schaub and his boys will score close to 50 points against Miami—believe it.
Arian Foster Will Not Play Sunday Against the Miami Dolphins
33 of 52Despite reports indicating Arian Foster will be active this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, my gut feeling is telling me that Mr. Foster will not be suiting up against the Dolphins.
Fantasy owners, take note.
Chad Henne Will Not Come Close to 300 Yards Against the Texans
34 of 52Despite lighting up New England's secondary this past Monday with 416 total passing yards, I simply don't see Chad Henne coming even close to 300 yards against the Houston Texans this Sunday.
The Texans are a much improved ballclub, and I believe they're destined for a playoff appearance this year.
Sorry, Miami fans—Henne will return to his old self.
The Cincinnati Bengals Will Enter Week 3 with a 2-0 Record
35 of 52Who would have thought that the Cincinnati Bengals would start 2011 with a 2-0 record? I sure as hell didn't, and you'd be lying if you did.
The Bengals are coming off an impressive victory against the Cleveland Browns and will be matching up with the 0-1 Denver Broncos.
I smell a victory.
Kyle Orton Will Complete Less Than 50 Percent of His Passes Against the Bengals
36 of 52Kyle Orton completed only 52.2 percent of his passes against the Oakland Raiders this past Monday, and the Cincinnati Bengals held Colt McCoy to only 47.5 percent of his passes last week.
What does that mean? Orton is going to complete less than 50 percent of his passes Sunday.
Sorry, Broncos fans—your team is simply not that good.
The San Diego Chargers Will Knock off the New England Patriots
37 of 52You may think that I'm crazy, but New England's defense is putrid and will struggle in a big way against Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
The Patriots let Chad Henne throw for 416 yards against them this past Monday, and I'm expecting Rivers to outdo Henne.
New England is in for some trouble.
Philip Rivers Will Outplay Tom Brady
38 of 52I'm getting sick as I type this: Philip Rivers will have a better game than Tom Brady, as he'll walk away from New England with a victory.
San Diego's defense was the league's best in 2010 and is obviously much better than Miami's; I just don't see New England's depleted offensive line faring too well against the Chargers' pass rush.
Chad Ochocinco Will Not Catch a Pass in Week 2
39 of 52Chad Ochocinco could go down as one of the worst decisions that Bill Belichick has ever made—the guy has been nothing but a bust.
Ochocinco has been in New England for six weeks and has yet to get a strong enough grasp of the offense.
He will conclude Week 2 with zero receptions.
Atlanta Will Rebound with a Win Against the Philadelphia Eagles
40 of 52So much for being the dream team: The Atlanta Falcons are going to knock off the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.
Michael Vick will be returning to Atlanta for the first time as a starter, and he's going to leave Atlanta with a loss.
I strongly believe the Falcons are a much more well-rounded team than the Eagles, making them a better squad.
Michael Vick Will Complete Less Than 50 Percent of His Passes Against Atlanta
41 of 52Welcome back to Atlanta, Michael—you're going to stink up the place.
Vick completed only 43.8 percent of his passes against the St. Louis Rams last week. What should make me think that he'll do any better against the Atlanta Falcons this week?
Julio Jones Will Have Two or More Touchdown Receptions
42 of 52I am expecting a huge offensive explosion out of the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
Julio Jones is going to have his coming-out party, as he'll reel in two or more touchdown passes. It's my gut feeling.
Fantasy owners, take note.
Michael Vick Will Start to Hear It from the Critics
43 of 52So much for being a pocket passer. Michael Vick will continue to revert to his days a starter in Atlanta: being a run-first quarterback that is very ineffective in the air.
Some of the blame could be put on Philadelphia's dreadful offensive line, but Vick is still choosing his actions.
You will continue to see Vick running more than ever this Sunday, as he'll make one read and then go.
Philadelphia cannot win this way.
Michael Turner Will Run for More Yards Than LeSean McCoy
44 of 52Michael Turner was very effective last week against the Chicago Bears, as he ran for 100 yards on just 10 carries. That's simple math—an incredible 10 yards per carry.
I'm expecting to see a heavy dose of Turner this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, which will result in more rushing yards than LeSean McCoy.
Fantasy owners, take note.
Sam Bradford Will Throw for 300-Plus Yards Against the New York Giants
45 of 52If Rex Grossman can throw for 305 yards against the New York Giants, why can't Sam Bradford? He's a far more talented passer.
Steven Jackson Will Not Play Against the New York Giants
46 of 52This may not be very bold, but Steven Jackson will not be playing against the New York Giants.
His right quad is going to hold him out and even hold him out of next week's game as well.
Cadillac Williams Will Average 5.0 or More Yards Per Carry Against the Giants
47 of 52Cadillac Williams looked very sharp in his season debut as he came in for the injured Steven Jackson.
Williams ran for 91 yards on 19 carries, which is an impressive 4.8 yards per carry.
I expect to see Williams to continue his success this Monday against the New York Giants.
The New York Giants Will Enter Week 3 with No Wins
48 of 52Eli Manning, Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants are really going to hear it after Monday, as I'm predicting a loss against the up-and-coming St. Louis Rams.
The Giants struggled against the Washington Redskins and should struggle against the Rams; the Giants could be in for some major criticism.
The Buffalo Bills Will Be in First Place in the AFC East
49 of 52With the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins losing, the Buffalo Bills will sit atop the AFC East with the New York Jets.
Wow, isn't that something?
Teams Will Try to Establish the Run This Week
50 of 52After last week's pass-happy explosion, it's safe to expect teams will try to establish the run game this weekend.
However, I don't really see it being too successful. Teams need to score points, and the fastest way to do so is through the air.
All 32 Teams Will Average 250 Passing Yards or More This Week
51 of 52Last week teams averaged 245 passing yards, which is a league record. However, this week teams will now average 250 passing yards.
More and more teams are starting to pass on nearly every single down, including 3rd-and-short.
15 or More Quarterbacks Will Have 300-Yard Passing Games
52 of 52After setting the record for 14 quarterbacks with a 300-yard passing game last week, the league will break the record this Sunday with 15 or more quarterbacks accumulating 300 passing yards.
The NFL is clearly a passing league, and there are several quarterbacks—definitely 15—that have the talent to pass for 300 yards.
Three hundred yards nowadays isn't anything special; it's just a solid performance.
