Jerome Williams' 5 No-Hit Innings and Maicer Izturis Help Angels Beat Mariners
On a Wednesday night where Los Angeles Angels rookie Mike Trout was named 2011 Minor League Player of the Year, it was the veteran pitching of Jerome Williams that sealed a 3-1 victory against the Mariners. Williams threw five no-hit innings and gave up only one home run to Robinson in a game that was scoreless to that point. If you were wondering about the pink glove Jerome Williams wears it is in support of cancer awareness for a family member who died recently that he wore throughout his minor league career since.
Furbush was outstanding for the Mariners and allowed only three hits through his outing. He showed an ability to induce fly-ball outs that were directed to Mariners outfielders directly with little motion necessary. Additional support from rookie Alex Liddi included a difficult stop-and-throw to nip Torii Hunter in the seventh. This 100-pitch outing was the longest of Furbush's career.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
In the eighth inning, the Angels came alive when Erick Aybar reached first base. Alberto Callaspo walked in the next at-bat, before third baseman Maicer Izturis brought both runners home on a liner that reached the outfield wall. Peter Bourjos added the third run of the game with a base hit to follow.
Jordan Walden had no issue finishing off the batters in order in the top of the ninth to seal a game that was only a few minutes over two hours in length. The team rushed the field to congratulate each other in their race to narrow the 2.5-game lead of the Texas Rangers in the American League West pennant race.
Both the Rangers and Angels will rest Thursday before the Yankees come in for a patriotic weekend of baseball at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
