Kevin Durant: The Summer Basketball Tour Continues
"Kevin Durant Would Hoop in Your Backyard If You Called Him Up." That was the best line on SportsCenter last night, courtesy of Scott Van Pelt.
In case you missed it, there was a charity game in Baltimore last night that featured Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James on one team, and they played against a team that featured Kevin Durant on the other team. There were other NBA players in the game, but these guys were the "headliners."
While the teams might seem a bit unfair, Durant didn't seem to mind. He dropped 59 points, albeit in a losing effort, as Team Carmelo won the game 149-141. This wasn't the first time Durant put on a scoring exhibition this summer.
In a game between the Drew League, out of Los Angeles, and the Goodman League, out of Washington DC, Durant also was a show-stopper. Durant dropped 44 points, leading his team to a 135-134 win. This was a star-studded affair, several high profile NBA players on both sides. On a side note, there are rumors of a rematch, with Kobe Bryant suiting up for the Drew League. Just tell me when and where because that will be fun to watch!
But perhaps the best performance by Durant this summer came at the legendary Rucker Park in Harlem. That night Durant dropped 66 points, draining four straight three pointers to close the game out. If you haven't watched the video, check it out.
So as Scott Van Pelt said, Durant seems like the kind of guy that just loves the game. He will play any time, anywhere, and against anybody. That is probably one of the biggest reasons he is one of the most respected players in the league. With Durant, it's not about the money or the fame. It's about a pure love of the game.
Hey KD, if you are looking to get another good run in, give me a call. I've got keys to the gym. Bring a few friends if you want to.
