NBA Trade Scenarios: 7 Deals That Would Shake Up the Eastern Conference
Who said that we can't have some fun amid this storm we call a lockout?
Now even though we don't quite know when we'll have basketball again, we do know that at some point we will. When that point comes, a flurry of trade buzz is going to ensue.
With rumors running thin, we now have plenty of time to think, debate and play around with potential deals that shake some stuff up in the Eastern Conference.
These trades are going to include big-name players with high salaries and also role players that could have major impacts on new teams.
Nets and Knicks
1 of 7Knicks Get: Deron Williams
Nets Get: Chauncey Billups, Toney Douglas, Bill Walker and 2013 first-round pick
It's almost a certainty that Deron Williams is going to be dealt when the lockout is lifted. Where to is the question.
If Williams is sent to the Big Apple, the Knicks will have formed their own "Big Three" with Williams, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.
Hornets and Magic
2 of 7Magic Get: Chris Paul
Hornets Get: Jameer Nelson, Ryan Anderson, JJ Redick and 2012 first-round pick
CP3 is in a dead end in New Orleans so it might be time for the Hornets to deal him.
Coupling Paul and Dwight Howard in Orlando might finally be enough to get a talented Magic squad over the hump after let downs in the past two playoffs.
Wizards and Bulls
3 of 7Wizards Get: Keith Bogans and Kyle Korver
Bulls Get: Nick Young
The Bulls were most likely a decent shooting guard away from being NBA Champions last year.
Nick Young is one of the brightest young players at his position—a perfect fit if you really think about it.
Bulls fans grew increasingly restless with Korver's inability to hit big shots in the playoffs and Keith Bogans' consistent lack of offense was a problem for the Bulls all season.
I don't think either guy would be missed much in the Windy City.
Hawks and Wizards
4 of 7Wizards Get: Josh Smith
Hawks Get: Andray Blatche and 2013 second round-pick
How scary could a squad of John Wall, Nick Young, Josh Smith and JaVale McGee be?
For the Wizards, Blatche would be an easy player to ship off and for Atlanta. He's a player that can come in and instantly produce on the offensive end.
Not to mention, the scary shot blocking ability a front line of McGee and J-Smoove would be in DC.
Hawks and Heat
5 of 7Heat Get: Jeff Teague
Hawks Get: Mario Chalmers
Jeff Teague broke out in last year's playoffs and instantly became a topic on the NBA rumor wire.
It's quite clear that Teague is more skilled than Mario Chalmers so for the Heat this is a great deal—especially for a team whose weaker position over the course of the year was point guard.
Luckily, the Hawks employ so many point guards that Teague becomes a little more expendable in this case.
Lakers and Nets
6 of 7Lakers Get: Brook Lopez and Brandan Wright
Nets Get: Pau Gasol
Brook Lopez is one of the brightest young big men in the NBA today. However, the team is so atrocious that Lopez alone isn't going to do the trick.
This of course, is assuming the inevitable departure of Deron Williams.
Pau is a proven big man who would fit nicely in New Jersey to play out the rest of his years in the NBA.
Magic and Celtics
7 of 7Celtics Get: Dwight Howard
Magic Get: Jermaine O'neal, Nenad Krstic, JaJuan Johnson, Glen Davis and a 2013 first-round pick
Here comes the biggest blockbuster deal I could come up with.
Pre-lockout Dwight Howard was the hottest name on the trade market despite firmly saying he was a member of the Orlando Magic. I didn't buy it.
JuJuan Johnson is a bright rookie out of Purdue that has an untapped amount of athleticism, which would make him a nice addition to the Magic.
If the Celtics were to somehow land Superman, they'd have to be leading contenders to win another title whenever basketball comes back.
