Has Arsene Wenger Lost Hold of Arsenal's Current Situation at Arsenal?

Mike GoncalvesJun 7, 2018

Arsenal kicked off their 2011-12 UEFA Champions League campaign last night at the Emirates Stadium against a very good Udinese team. After the match, it was even more evident that Arsenal FC could be in for a very long and difficult season.

Arsene Wenger had to serve a match suspension due to last year's issues after the Barcelona match, and he appeared to be more agitated than ever watching from the stands.

Now that Cesc Fabregas has finally signed with Barcelona and Samir Nasri is seemingly on his way to Eastland's, what is Wenger going to do?

The Gunners not only have to deal with not having much depth right now, but they also have a very difficult schedule for the next three matches, and the new season has just begun. They will play host to Liverpool this weekend, then travel to Italy to play the second leg of the Champions League match against Udinese and then will travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

As it is, that is not an easy schedule for any team, let alone for an Arsenal team that is completely depleted with departures and injuries. As Arsenal fans sit tight and hope for Wenger to make moves, all they are really seeing is Wenger parting ways with more and more players while not bringing anyone in.

Yesterday, the club announced a deal between Galatasary and Arsenal FC for the transfer of Emmanuel Eboue.

Carlos Vela was also sent to Real Sociedade on another loan spell. I'm not very sure what Wenger is trying to accomplish with continuously loaning out Vela. He has shown that he has the potential, so why not give him a chance? Wenger was stubborn last season and continued to use Nicklas Bendtner, who realistically does not appear to be a very good choice for a team such as Arsenal. Can't he take a chance on a young Carlos Vela?

Then again, Wenger will bring in players like Carl Jenkinson and Alex Chamberlain who have no top-level experience.

What is the French coach left to do now? He is under possibly the most amount of pressure he has faced since arriving at Arsenal. The successive seasons without silverware combined with his constant comments about being patient in the transfer market have really built up some anger towards him.

The transfer market is about two weeks from closing and while Arsenal's rivals are all set and ready to go with their new signings, Arsenal are still trying to figure out what they want to do with their squad.

They just let go their captain one week into the season, and appear on the brink of losing another creative and influential midfielder this week.

A week or so ago, Wenger came out publicly and promised that he would have a big-name signing that week. But in the end, he signed no one, unless of course Chamberlain is a 'big name' in his eyes.

Today, Wenger has said that he has no problem spending big money in the transfer market, but it has to be the right player. So I'm not very sure as to what Wenger considers 'the right player,' but do Per Mertesacker, Juan Mata, Gary Cahill, Christopher Samba, Phil Jagielka and Eden Hazard not fit the 'right player' mold?

Arsenal have three big games coming up, which, it's sad to say, could very well make or break the season. If Arsenal are to be eliminated from the Champions League, and lose to Liverpool and Manchester United, they will be left with one point in the EPL through three matches. Not very good for a team looking to compete for a top spot.

Not only that, but what will the morale of the players be like if this were to happen? Knowing that they are struggling with squad numbers as well as quality and depth may be compounded by the fact that their manager doesn't appear to be locking in any top-level signings.

I would assume that Wenger must absolutely make some moves before this weekend's match against Liverpool FC.

If he is to not pick anyone up, and subsequently lose at the Emirates against Liverpool, things could get real ugly.
