NFL Predictions: Five Teams That Will Disappoint in 2011
Expectations should be scaled back for every team this season. It was a short and wild offseason for the NFL this year, thanks to the lockout.
Training camps have just gotten underway, and there are still players out on the free-agent market, and even some of them that have already signed haven't practiced with their new teams.
Many of the expectations for teams this year will be based off of last season's success, and the rosters as they stand on paper right now. It is impossible to predict injuries and/or suspensions that may be given out during the year that could change the landscape of the NFL season.
I do believe, however, that there are five teams that are going to let their fans down this year.
New York Giants
1 of 5The Giants enter the season with many problems. Their defensive star Osi Umenyiora is still at odds with the team and either wants a new contract, or to be traded.
The talented young cornerback they drafted this year, Prince Amukamara, just broke his foot and will most likely miss the season.
Kansas City Chiefs
2 of 5The Chiefs had an incredible season last year, making the playoffs for the first time in forever. Jamaal Charles had a fantastic season, and Dwayne Bowe exploded onto the scene.
Their defense has been getting better every year, and they still have one of the best home-field advantage stadiums in the league.
Unfortunately I think the expectations of winning the division again this year are just too much to ask. The Chargers are the favorites to win the AFC West, and getting a wild-card berth is going to be nearly impossible for this division.
New York Jets
3 of 5New Yorkers are hating me right now. I realize that for the most part, the Jets are still the same team that went to the AFC Championship last year.
Unfortunately, I don't see how they have improved at all since then. They lost a lot of veteran guys on defense and didn't replace them. They basically replaced Braylon Edwards with a guy who hasn't played football since 2008.
They still have Mark Sanchez as their quarterback, which will be a big handicap if he hasn't improved his game.
Shonn Green is still a bit overrated in my book, and LT is another year older and was told his role will be minimized this year.
Rex is going to need to pull out a rabbit if he wants to repeat last year's record.
New Orleans Saints
4 of 5This is more about the NFC South division than it is about the Saints playing bad.
I think that Atlanta has the most talented team in this division, and we saw what Tampa Bay is capable of, after they won 10 games last year and missed the playoffs. I think all three of the other teams in this division are on the rise and all have great offenses.
How rookie Mark Ingram fits into the team's plans will go a long way in determining how successful they can be this year. Their defense will have to get better, and they have to keep Brees healthy in order to have a chance at all.
Minnesota Vikings
5 of 5I don't think anyone expected much out of the Vikings this year, until they landed Donovan McNabb. Since then, a lot of people have them finishing in second place in the NFC North.
Obviously the defending champion Packers will be the favorites going in, and it looks like this year's "sexy pick" is the Detroit Lions. The Bears defense will once again keep them alive, but their offense could be horrible.
They did land a veteran in McNabb, but which version of him will we be seeing in Minnesota? There is no more Sidney Rice, and the loss of Ray Edwards will hurt the defense for sure.
I am really interested to see how this division will shake out this year, but I think Vikings fans should lower their expectations this year.
