Michael Vick: 5 Indications That Vick Will Return to the Pro Bowl
Guess what guys, did you hear that there will be football next year?
With all of our prayers finally answered, the lockout has been lifted after 131 days of chaos. That means the 2011 season will be one to remember.
Now for the Philadelphia Eagles, this season has high hopes for them to go all the way. They are the center of the rumor mill with the whole Kolb trade and the possible Favre signing rumor, but regardless; Vick is the starter.
His 2010 comeback was nothing short of miraculous, and everyone knows he will now be under a microscope. Say what you wish, but I feel Vick will have another Pro Bowl caliber season.
Here are the 5 reasons why Vick will return to the Pro Bowl.
He Is the Man in Philly
1 of 5Last season, Vick knew that if he started slowing his game down and didn't provide every week, there was someone on the bench waiting to fill his spot.
With the Eagles looking to trade Kolb as Vick will be the starter in 2011, he can relax a little bit. Everyone is off their rocker when there is a lot of pressure on you- especially when you are the quarterback of the Eagles!
He can play with ease and not force the error. Yes, I'm sure knowing that Kolb was the starter of the team in the beginning of the season and knowing he was ready to ply again whenever Vick couldn't motivated him to play a little better, but like I said, it is a lot of pressure.
Vick is now the face of the franchise, and can take snaps knowing that is a fact.
More Time to Practice During the Lockout
2 of 5Last year, do you think players took it amongst themselves to remain a team when they had their time off? No, they did not practice together and set up personal training days like many have done this offseason.
Players did this just to stay in shape as a team and to boost the team chemistry levels.
Also, Vick was not the starter in Philly.
I attended the Eagles training camps days last year, and let's say out of 10 snaps, Vick and Kafka took 2 each. This year, he is the starter, and will be practicing like one.
I'm sure during the lockout, he has read up on the playbook and has kept himself in shape, ready to play this season.
Revenge
3 of 5If you've read some of my articles in the past about Vick, then you know'll know this is a big one for me.
Vick was the favorite to win the league MVP award, but Tom Brady won it in the end. Yeah, Vick didn't sweat it, but we all know he secretly wanted to win that. Who wouldn't. Granted he did win the Comeback Player of the Year award, MVP would've been nice as well.
Also, he will be entering the season with a chip on his shoulder. He knows he could've led the Eagles to a win over the Packers in last years Wild-Card matchup, but didn't. Instead, he threw an interception late in the game that sealed the win for the Pack.
When I say revenge, I'm not saying that he has it out for anyone in the NFL. I'm saying that he wants revenge on himself ultimately.
Vick will prove he is what the Eagles need and he will play with the thought of last season in mind and how it ended,
Vick Can Learn from 2010
4 of 5This the most important reason. Something you'll always hear is that you learn from your mistakes. This is true, and Vick will do so.
Now his 2010 year was outstanding, but it did have some flaws and quirks that he needs to work out if he wants to wear that ring.
Vick transformed his game dramatically.
When he played as a Falcon from 2001-06, he was known to be a scrambler. In fact, after not starting a game, let alone season in four years, he still managed to put up career-high numbers in passing yards (3,018), passing touchdowns (21), and passer rating (100.2).
He learned to evade a lot of pressure, but yet not to scramble out of every situation. Now in 2011, he will need to know his limits and what he can and can't do.
Vick took full responsibility for losing to the Packers in the Wild-Card game last season. He admitted he got greedy and it came back to bite him.
So if he learns to his limits on the field, he will have a better year in 2011 and ultimately return to the Pro Bowl once more.
Contract Year
5 of 5Back on March 2, Vick signed a one-year franchise tender guaranteeing him a home in 2011.
He is only promised to be an Eagle for one more year, so this year will be huge if he wants to remain as one. Vick realizes this and knows he needs to play his heart out.
If he has a bad year with around as many interceptions as touchdowns and spent a lot of time hurt on the bench, then he probably won't be wearing an Eagles jersey in 2012. However, if he plays great like last season and stuns the NFL, you can bet he will sign a pretty nice contract.
Contract years always bring out the player under the pads. If someone wants out, they'll play like it. If someone like Vick wants to stay, then you'll notice all the extra hard work and such he put in to make sure he has an even better year.
If Vick made it to the Pro Bowl while only playing in 12 games and still put up the numbers he did, then I think Hawaii will be seeing a lot of No.7 jerseys in the bleachers.
