World Transfer Rumors: 6 Most Annoying Transfer Sagas at the Moment
With the transfer window at its midpoint, rumors are starting to turn into deals, and the unfounded gossip is not making the headlines as much. It's time for teams to start buying players, not scouting them.
This summer has been full of rumors, and many of them have been very irritating. The most annoying gossip comes when a transfer can take place, as one or both teams want the move to happen, but it doesn't because of a small problem.
Here's a list of the six most annoying transfer sagas of the 2011 summer transfer window.
Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona
1 of 6Club: Arsenal
Rumored Destination: Barcelona
What is it with this deal? Why isn't Fabregas on Barcelona yet? On paper, this proposed deal shouldn't have problems being finalized. Fabregas seems to want to join his Spanish teammates in Barcelona, his youth club. In addition, he isn't coming off the best of seasons, and it would seem reasonable for Arsenal to cash in on the Spaniard.
However, you never know with Arsene Wenger. He desperately wants to keep the club captain. The Fabregas to Barcelona transfer rumors were in full speed in June but have cooled down a little bit in July. But the hostility between Barcelona and Arsenal is at a high with Xavi's recent comments and with the Mayor of Fabregas' hometown stating Cesc is being kidnapped by the Gunners. It's all back and forth, but the question that everyone is asking is: When is it all going to end?
Main Issue(s) That Is Stopping the Deal: Arsenal want more money, and Wenger doesn't want to sell player.
Probability of Deal Being Finalized (this summer): 6/10.
Luka Modric to Chelsea
2 of 6Club: Tottenham
Rumored Destination: Chelsea
The Luka Modric to Chelsea saga may not have been going on for as long as Fabregas', but it seems almost as vexing. There is no doubt the Croatian wants to switch teams. He has made it clear on several occasions.
But it's also pretty clear the Spurs are desperate to keep him. I feel Chelsea will give Tottenham and Harry Redknapp two more weeks, or even less, for this deal to take place. If not, the Blues can turn elsewhere. There are a bunch of other great center midfielders out there for Chelsea to buy.
Still, I wonder what Tottenham are thinking. Do they honestly believe Modric will act the same as he did last season and forget all about the treatment he has received? It's time for the Spurs to cash in on their midfielder.
Main Issue That Is Stopping the Deal: Redknapp does not want to sell player.
Probability of Deal Being Finalized (this summer): 7/10.
Samir Nasri to Manchester City
3 of 6Club: Arsenal
Rumored Destination(s): Manchester City (most likely), Manchester United, Chelsea
It's not clear what exactly is happening to Samir Nasri at the moment. It seemed Nasri was on his way out of Arsenal in early July, but things looked to have changed, as the Frenchman is with the Gunners on their Asia tour.
Still, it was just a few weeks ago when he discussed his options. People view what he said in different ways. It's not as clear cut as Sergio Agüero's or Luka Modric's attempts to move clubs. Still, it is annoying for fans to not know where Nasri is going to be next season.
Arsene Wenger may be persuasive enough to keep his fellow countryman at Arsenal, but it is still to be seen. Rumors are now starting to fade away about the Nasri deal, but it has still been a fairly irritating saga.
Main Issue That Is Stopping the Deal: Wenger does not want to sell player.
Probability of Deal Being Finalized (this summer): 4/10.
Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona
4 of 6Club: Udinese
Rumored Destination: Barcelona
Most big transfer rumors at least indirectly involve the EPL, but this one doesn't. It has been clear for a while now that Alexis Sanchez would either be staying at Udinese or going to Barcelona. There have been a bunch of problems with the possible deal, and the frustrating part is that these issues aren't completely understood (at least by me).
With Lionel Messi and Chile coach Claudio Borghi both recently stating they want Sanchez on Barcelona, along with the Chilean winger's wish to join Barcelona, it seems this deal should be completed after the Copa America has finished. Even though it seems an agreement will be made, it has taken way too long for it to be finalized.
Main Issue That Is Stopping the Deal: Udinese want more money (which seems to be solved now).
Probability of Deal Being Finalized (this summer): 8/10.
Carlos Tevez Leaving Manchester City
5 of 6Club: Manchester City
Rumored Destination(s): Corinthians, Real Madrid, Chelsea
The Carlos Tevez transfer saga is not too extensive but may well be one of the most annoying ones out there. The problem with Tevez is not how he conducts himself on the pitch but rather off it. The Argentian has never found a "home" for himself, as he has never been able to fully establish himself in a location.
And now he wants to leave Manchester City. He's going to become the next Nicolas Anelka if he keeps moving from club to club. Tevez transfer news isn't publicized as much as other rumors but is still annoying.
Tevez simply can't find a way to deal with the situation peacefully. Manchester City bought him for a lot of money, and he certainly hasn't paid it all back (though he has done well since his move). It's time for City to let him go, and I hope a deal is finalized as quickly as possible (Corinthians look set to sign him pretty soon).
Main Issue That Is Stopping the Deal: Manchester City want more money.
Probability of Deal Being Finalized (this summer): 7/10.
Neymar to Five Clubs
6 of 6Club: Santos
Rumored Destination(s): Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Anzhi Makhachkala
Five clubs have met Neymar's release clause on Santos, but it seems the Brazilian may end up staying in Brazil for another season. Neymar has a buyout clause of a little less than $64 million, and it seems that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala have all met the demand.'
Like in the Fabregas' transfer saga, Neymar has been linked to Europe's biggest clubs for over a year now. Last summer, it wasn't as big of a deal, and Chelsea were the only likely suitors. Now, it's different and Neymar has been in the headlines for the past two months.
After so much transfer talk, it seems that both Neymar and Santos believe the best decision is to keep the player in Brazil. It may be good for Neymar to stay away from Europe for one more season, as he is still young. However, this transfer saga has been irritating already, and the end result doesn't even include the player switching clubs. I guess we'll see what happens next summer (or winter).
Main Issue That Is Stopping the Deal: Santos want to keep their player.
Probability of Deal Being Finalized (this summer): 3/10.
