Women's World Cup TV Schedule: Brazil vs USA Match Arrives Sooner Than Expected
Women's World Cup TV schedule for USA vs. Brazil is Sunday, July 10th, at 11:30 a.m. (EST), with live coverage on ESPN.
The U.S. was rolling right along in Women's World Cup play. They were 2-0 and needed only a win or a tie against Sweden to win their group.
No problem, right? Wrong! Big problem.

For the first time ever, the U.S. women have lost a match to Sweden in the World Cup. And now they will have to play Brazil in the quarterfinals.
Brazil and the U.S. have gotten familiar with each other over the years. Brazil was runner up to the Americans at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.
Brazil looks strong. They finished off group play undefeated with a 3-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea. That capped not only an undefeated group run, but also one in which they did not allow a goal. Brazil outscored opponents 7-0 in group stage play.
There was obviously plenty of incentive for the U.S. to avoid having to play this strong Brazil team in the quarterfinals, yet as they have done all too frequently this year, they blew too many chances to find the net to pull out a victory.
After going nearly two years without a loss, this is the U.S.'s fourth loss of the year—and their second to Sweden.
While the U.S. is undoubtedly upset with the outcome, they are trying to make the best of the path ahead of them after the match. Amy Wambach was quoted by ESPN as saying:
"We think the road to the World Cup's top podium is going to be difficult. That's kind of been our journey so far, so why change things now?"
In the ESPN article, U.S. coach Pia Sundhage tried to spread a similar message, saying:
"After, what I said to the team is, my glass is half-full. Even though we lost, we can come out as a winner if we take a different path. ... We really want to play in the final. But we have to play some great games, play some great teams. I really want us to embrace this process. I think the team will get stronger. That's the plan.
"
The team better be getting stronger, or they will quickly be getting less busy. Nothing short of the Americans' A-game will get them past this attacking Brazil squad—and even that might not be enough.
