FC Bayern: Heynckes Starts off with a Plan; Usami to Arrive on Loan.
What every Bayern supporter at the moment would want is a new centre-back. That dream might not be fulfilled; for the moment listening to Jupp Heynckes will have to be the alternative. Heynckes decided to set things straight as he took charge (again) for his first training session for the new season. He said that he will be more than willing to be flexible. He will not simply stick to one formation: he will change things up and he will play with two strikers if needed.
Another important thing that Heynckes spoke about was the defence. He clearly mentioned that Bayern (obviously) needs to have a better balance between the offence and the defence. As we all know, Bayern lost out in all three competitions last season precisely because of the fact that they couldn't balance out the two. On days that the offence excelled, the defence failed miserably such as against Inter at the Allianz Arena and on days that the defence held tight, the offence failed such as during a few draws at the beginning of the 2010-11 season.

Heynckes, for a few laughs, mentioned that in his time at Real Madrid, he told everyone at the club that he felt that Bayern was the best club in the world and not Real. That did not go down well with the Madristas. That must have made Uli Hoeness feel proud immediately. Bayern will be hoping that Heynckes can do what he did at Real- guide the team to a Champions League triumph. Heynckes wants the team to be fit enough for the DFB Pokal tie against Eintracht Braunschweig which is in just over a month as well as the Champions League qualifiers.
As far as new signings are concerned, we already knew that Manuel Neuer, Rafinha and Nils Petersen were on board. Takashi Usami will join on loan after the J-League season finishes from Gamba Osaka. Christian Nerlinger, Bayern's sporting director specified that the attacking midfielder who can also feature as a forward will be given time to adapt to the Bundesliga. He will act as a back-up, perhaps to Thomas Mueller. Mueller himself has been talking up Bayern's chances of winning the Bundesliga recently.
Bayern has officially confirmed their interests in Jerome Boateng and Arturo Vidal. However, Nerlinger said that Bayern is not willing to pay an 'Utopian' amount to Manchester City for the defender. As far as Vidal is concerned, Nerlinger said that he has clearly heard the words of the members of the Leverkusen hierarchy. In other news, the schedule for next season has been given out. Bayern plays Gladbach in the opener and does not play Dortmund until November.
Jupp Heynckes' new goalkeeping coach is Toni Tapalovic who worked at Schalke previously. He also worked with Manuel Neuer. Rafinha also played plenty of games with Neuer at Schalke. Heynckes' assistant is Peter Hermann, a former footballer himself. Hermann played for Alemannia Aachen as well as Bayer Leverkusen. He was the assistant coach at Nuremberg previously.
Bayern's aims are set for the new season: the two domestic titles, the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup have to be regained. Also, the club must reach the Champions League quarter-finals. Based on Heynckes' words on opening day, the goals should be achieved by the time May 2012 comes around.
