College Football Recruiting: Catching Up with FSU Commit P.J. Williams

Drew LaingJun 25, 2011

Since July 2010, 4-star defensive back P.J. Williams has been a solid commitment to Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles. I caught up with Williams at the IMG Madden 7 on 7 Championships in Bradenton, Fla.

"

"Florida State was my first offer I received and FSU is my school. I've been a fan of them ever since I was little. That's pretty much where I have wanted to go all of my life."

"

While Williams grew up following and cheering for the past teams at FSU, he realizes that the Seminoles are quickly growing back into the national powerhouse he watched as a kid. And he credits the coaching staff for the resurgence of the program

"

"They got a lot of tradition and some really good coaches. They are really on the rise there. I can't wait to get up there and be coached by Mark Stoops. He is a really good coach."

"

While he claims he is still loyal to the Seminoles, Williams will keep looking around at other universities.

"

"I'm solid to Florida State, but I am still going to see what's out there and visit other schools," Williams said.

"

Williams has three other schools competing with FSU for his services.

"

"I got offers from Alabama, Miami, and South Florida, too."

"

Besides the Seminoles, Williams is particularly interested in Alabama and Miami. Williams says Alabama's conference plays a big part in his final decision.

"

"They play big time games in the SEC and are always on television. They play in a lot of championships and that is big time. It's something I seriously look at."

"

Miami is an attractive option due to their lack of depth at cornerback.

"

"Miami is just a really great school and they told me if I went up there, I would have the opportunity to play early."

"

Regardless of where he ends up, Williams plans on finishing out his senior season and enrolling in the summer.

Williams will be at camp with Florida State sometime in July and then participate in ESPN's Gridiron Kings on July 22-25.

He is considered the eighth-best safety by Rivals.com and is No. 173 on the Rivals 250 list.
