NBA Trade Rumors: Grading Winners and Losers of Kings, Bucks, Bobcats Deal
We all knew it would come eventually, and now, with the 2011 NBA Draft less than two hours away, the first big draft day trade is in the books.
The Charlotte Bobcats have agreed to a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks, which will send Stephen Jackson to Milwaukee.
The Bucks will get Jackson, Shaun Livingston, Beno Udrich and the No. 19 pick, while Charlotte gets the No. 7 pick from Sacramento and Corey Maggette from Milwaukee. The Kings will get John Salmons from Milwaukee and the No. 10 pick in the draft.
Rumors have begin to spread that Stephen Jackson is not happy with the deal, but are we really surprised about that?
Let's break down this trade and figure out the winners and losers from this draft day blockbuster deal.
Milwaukee Bucks
1 of 3Milwaukee Bucks
Gain: Stephen Jackson (SG), Shaun Livingston (PG), Beno Udrich (PG), 19th pick in NBA Draft
Lose: Corey Maggette (SF), John Salmons (SG), 10th pick in NBA Draft
This was an interesting deal here for Milwaukee, and from the initial looks of it, it appears that they come out winners because they get the best player in this entire deal, Stephen Jackson. But, now that we hear that Jackson has no interest in playing for Milwaukee, this doesn't look so good for the Bucks organization.
Outside of Jackson, Milwaukee also gained two point guards in this deal, but they already have Brandon Jennings, who is one of the top, young point guards in the NBA. Therefore, this deal doesn't seem to favor Milwaukee.
They also traded away the No. 10 pick, which could be used on a guy like Klay Thompson, but now he will all but surely be gone by No. 19.
Stephen Jackson is a plus, but other than that, it doesn't seem like Milwaukee came out winners with this deal.
Charlotte Bobcats
2 of 3Charlotte Bobcats
Gain: No. 7 pick in NBA Draft, Corey Maggette (SF)
Lose: Stephen Jackson (SG), Shaun Livingston (PG), No. 19 pick in NBA Draft
Charlotte cut ties with guard Stephen Jackson, but in return they get Corey Maggette, who is a solid NBA starter and the No. 7 pick in the draft.
This isn't a deep NBA Draft, but there are some good players in the top 10. Charlotte now has two top-10 picks, which they should be able to use on two potential starters.
When looking at it, Charlotte did give away the top player in this deal, but they gained three potential starters, which is huge in their rebuilding effort. The Bobcats come away as a winner in this deal.
Sacramento Kings
3 of 3Sacramento Kings
Gain: John Salmons (SG), No. 10 pick in NBA Draft
Lose: Beno Udrih (PG), No. 7 pick in NBA Draft
The Sacramento Kings are after a point guard, and they felt like they could get the guy they wanted later on in the draft. Therefore, they dealt the No. 7 pick and moved down three spots, where most people believe they will select Jimmer Fredette.
The Kings also dealt Beno Udrih, and in return, were able to land John Salmons, who is a solid NBA starter.
From the looks of it, Sacramento came out the biggest winner in this deal. They should still be able to land their man at pick No. 10, and upgraded their roster by dealing Udrih for Salmons.
With Fredette, Salmons and Tyreke Evans, the Kings could have one of the top backcourts in the Western Conference. That's assuming that Jimmer will be there at No. 10, but all signs point to that being the case.
