NBA Trade Rumors: Weak NBA Draft 2011 Means Monta Ellis Shouldn't Be Traded
Monta Ellis Will Still Be a Warrior, According to Latest NBA Trade Rumors
The Golden State Warriors have seen what a touch of Jerry West can do for your team ahead of the NBA Draft. As a consultant, West issued that the Warriors should get bigger in the backcourt and make Monta Ellis expendable. That will not, and should not, happen.
West is all about making championship omelets by cracking some All-Star level eggs. The fact is, there is nothing out there that will allow the Golden State Warriors to take the next step.
The latest trade rumor that was allegedly shot down would have seen the Lakers trade Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown for Monta Ellis. The Warriors quickly struck that down.
There is no way you can take on two bench players, even if one is the reigning sixth man of the year, for a swift guard that is getting better with every season.
The other route is to send Ellis off to a team with a high pick in the NBA draft today. That would be worse than taking on bench help.
This draft leaves a tremendous amount to be desired. In Ellis, you have a guard that has asserted himself as a top-tier scorer. He can ignite the offense on any given day.
What the 2011 NBA Draft gives you is a bunch of questions. There isn't a certifiable future All-Star among these dismal prospects.
Losing Monta Ellis may be the best endgame for the Warriors, I am not contending that. However, the Warriors need to wait for better trade scenarios, and much better young talent, to consider giving up their best player.
