Miami Hurricanes Football: 8 Opponents We Would Love to See on Future Schedules
Compared to most of the SEC schools, Miami has one of the hardest out of conference schedules year in and year out.
In the last few years, excluding bowl games, Miami has faced Florida, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Miami already has great teams they will be playing in the future already on tap, including Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Nebraska.
Here is a list of other opponents that Hurricane nation would love to see.
USC Trojans
1 of 8
When I think of dominating programs that are currently in a slide, I think of USC and Miami.
Anytime you think of two of the best college teams ever assembled though, you think the 2004 Trojans and the 2001 Hurricanes.
So why not play each other?
Both programs are coming off less then stellar seasons, but I believe in the next few years, both teams will be back to the elite in college football.
I would love nothing more then to see the California vs Florida.
Texas Longhorns
2 of 8The top two states that produce the best players are from Texas and Florida.
Each year on ESPN, there is a matchup against two of the top high school teams in the country and nine times out of 10, it's a south Florida team against a Texas team.
If the high schoolers are doing it, why shouldn't Miami and Texas?
The series is tied two games a piece, the last being time was in the 1991 Cotton Bowl, when Miami mutilated the Longhorns, 46-3.
I am sure Texas would love a revenge game as well.
Alabama Crimson Tide
3 of 8
Since 1972, no other teams in college football has won more national championships then Miami and Alabama, each winning five.
Since 2000, each team has won a national championship.
Lately the Crimson Tide has been doing a lot better then the Hurricanes, but that could all change in the upcoming years.
I would love to see two of the most historic teams once again collide and determine who has the best program in the last 40 years.
Penn State Nittany Lions
4 of 8Back in the '80s there were no better programs then Miami and Penn State as both teams combined for five of the 10 national championships, Miami winning three, while Penn State won two.
That really isn't what bothers me though.
It comes down to the 1987 Fiesta Bowl, when both teams entered the game undefeated and Miami was heralded as one of the best teams ever.
Miami out gained Penn State 445 yards to 162 yards, but the Hurricanes couldn't overcome their seven turnovers, including five interceptions by Vinny Testaverde.
Every time I think of the Hurricanes' national championships, I always think of the one they gave the Nittany Lions.
Oregon Ducks
5 of 8
This one is my personal preference pick.
I would enjoy watching the Oregon Ducks play, with their strange, quick striking offense against a speedy, hard hitting defense like the Miami Hurricanes have.
Granted both teams have been on the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to who has had a better team within the last few years, but this game would be in the future.
There would be nothing better then watching the high powered offense of Oregon taking on the smash mouth football from Miami.
LSU Tigers
6 of 8
In the last 10 years, there hasn't been a better school then the LSU Tigers, having won two national championships and five more bowl games.
One of those bowl games, the 2005 Peach Bowl, was a 40-3 victory over the Hurricanes.
If the Hurricanes really want a team to play, to determine if they belong in the elite, the Tigers would need to be that team.
Washington Huskies
7 of 8This one would be a revenge game for the Hurricanes.
Washington ruined two major things for the Hurricanes in the past.
The first time the Huskies did it, was in 1994 when they ended Miami's 58 consecutive home-win streak, 38-20 in the Orange Bowl.
The other time was the 2000 season, Miami lost to Washington, which ruined the chances for the Hurricanes to play in the national championship game.
Not to mention Miami had to share the national championship with the Huskies in 1991 when the coaches thought Washington had the better team.
Florida Gators (Every Year)
8 of 8This one is my personal plea.
Maybe it's the fact that I work in Gainesville that really makes me hate the Gators even more.
Maybe it's the fact that the Gators were scared to death to play Miami all the time, so they removed them off their schedule, until UF got good again.
Maybe it's the fact that they have that stupid "gator chomp."
Whatever it is, there is only one place they need to determine who is the best Florida school, and that is to play them on the field.
Not when it's convenient to UF, but every year, just like they play FSU every year.
Then again, when the Gators beat Miami in 2008, it marked the first time in the last seven meetings UF won.
Maybe Florida has a right to avoid the Hurricanes?
