Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo's 5 Greatest Games

Jason HenryJun 18, 2011

Mr. Tony Romo is one of the National Football League’s most scrutinized quarterbacks. In fact, he may face the most criticism and scrutiny in the entire league. Romo is one of the league’s best, just check the statistics.

Most teams would love to have a quarterback of his stature and Dallas obviously has no plans to let him get in the wind anytime soon.

So to celebrate my man and his acumen as a quarterback, let's take a look at Tony’s five greatest games as a Dallas Cowboy.

Cowboys vs. Bills, 25-24, 2007

1 of 5

There were so many things to go wrong in this game. There were turnovers, more turnovers and even more turnovers. Romo turned the ball over six times, had five picks and one fumble, and he still survived.

He wasn’t cut the next day and he wasn’t released in the offseason. In fact Romo’s team actually won the game where he had those six turnovers.

Romo led the ‘Boys on an 80-yard drive capped off by a Patrick Crayton touchdown to leave 20 seconds on the clock. Dallas was still behind after that score so they were forced to try an onside kick.

They recovered, Romo ushered them into field-goal range and field-goal kicker Nick Folk handled the rest. Cowboys win.

Romo had six turnovers and he still had enough confidence left to lead his team to victory. By far one of Tony’s greatest performances.

Cowboys vs. Eagles, 34-14, 2009 Playoffs

Tony’s stat line was copacetic that night; he tossed two touchdowns and passed for 244 yards. Romo was efficient, focused and led his team to their first playoff victory since 1996.

Of course the victory over the Eagles was a team effort but Romo’s ability to spread the ball around and limit his turnovers was key. Of Tony’s 23-pass completion he connected with eight different receivers.

Dallas went on to lose to the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round, but for that one night in Dallas Tony and the ‘Boys were kings.

Cowboys vs. Lions, 28-27, 2007

Romo’s final minute heroics against the Lions back in 2007 sent Dallas to the king’s chair in the NFC East.

The Cowboys inched out a last second victory against the Lions after a back-and-forth contest that featured over 70 passes thrown.

Tony led the Cowboys on an 83-yard drive in the final two minutes of the game and hooked up with tight end Jason Witten for a 16-yard touchdown to end the madness in Detroit.

Tony’s still trying to put his critics to rest regarding his on-the-field leadership and if he has a few more games like this, he may be successful.

Cowboys vs. Chiefs, 26-20, 2009

This game really belongs to wide receiver Miles Austin. Money making Miles had 10 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns against KC that day.

Dallas was mistake prone that day as they were during the entire time Wade Phillips was in Cowboy town.

But as we’ve seen in the past, Dallas has learned to overcome their faults. Tony led the ‘Boys to an overtime victory against the Chiefs after hooking up with Austin on a 60-yard touchdown scamper that will forever live on in Cowboys lore.

Cowboys vs. Cardinals, 27-10, 2006

My reasoning for choosing this game was because it was Romo’s first 300-yard passing performance. It came against the Cardinals and he completed almost 70 percent of his passes that day and tossed two touchdowns.

Tony went on to lead the ‘Boys to the playoffs but had his infamous bobble snap against the Seahawks led to their playoff demise and the loss of their head coach, Bill Parcells.

But this game and this season catapulted Romo into the stratosphere and he has yet to come down.

During his tenure as a starter, the Cowboys have reached the playoffs three times and he’s been at the helm for all three games.

While Dallas has only won one of those contests, Romo has at least taken his team to the second season.
