Florida Football Recruiting: D.J. Humphries and 5 Recruits Still Deciding
While the University of Florida had a bit of an off-year in recruiting with the departure of Urban Meyer in 2011, D.J. Humphries and these five recruits can help the Florida Gators come out with a top-10 recruiting class in 2012.
According to Scout.com, the Gators ranked 26th in the nation for their recruiting class in 2011. Many teams would be satisfied with that ranking, but the Florida Gators are a top-tier College Football program who expect to bring in one of the top recruiting classes year in and year out.
The 2012 class already looks to have the Gators back to their old dominate selves at recruiting—with two 5-star commits and seven 4-star commits, including corner-back Brian Poole and offensive tackle Jessamen Dunker the Gators seem well on their way up the recruiting ranks.
While quarterback Jeff Driskel was the Florida Gators prized recruit in 2011, could one of these five prospects highlight the 2012 recruiting class?
1. D.J. Humphries
1 of 5
D.J. Humphries is the fifth-ranked offensive tackle on Scout.com and he looks like he will be a quarterbacks best friend at the next level.
Humphries has started since his freshman season at Mallard Creek High school in North Carolina, and he did not allow a single sack during his sophomore and junior seasons.
D.J. Humphries has high interest in the Florida Gators, with Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina and Tennessee rounding out his top five.
It's hard to gauge who is leading in the race for the young offensive tackle, but he has said "I have a plan," we just don't know what that plan is.
With the signing in 2011 of the Nation's best quarterback, Jeff Driskel, I think the idea of blocking for one of the top quarterbacks in college football for the next four years gives Florida an edge.
2. Dorial Green-Beckham
2 of 5
Dorial Green-Beckham is the prized gem in the 2012 recruiting circuit.
Green is an amazing mix of size, speed, and ability. At 6'6" 220 pounds, Green will be one of the most dominate possession receivers in college football even as a freshman.
With over 3,300 yards receiving and 38 touchdowns during his sophomore and junior seasons at Hill Crest High School in Montana, Dorial Green-Beckham has become the most sought after prospect of nearly every top team in College Football.
The Gators have as good a shot as anyone it appears to land Green, but there have been no signs on any one team being a "front-runner" at this point.
3. Eli Harold
3 of 5
Eli Harold is one of the top outside linebackers in the 2012 class, and at 6'3'' 215 pounds Harold has great size and speed for an outside linebacker and the ability to line up as defensive end as well.
Harold recorded 30 tackles with seven sacks during his junior season at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia, and the Florida Gators are in the top three to acquire his services along with Virgina and North Carolina.
4. Landon Collins
4 of 5
Landon Collins is the second rated safety in the 2012 recruiting class according to Rivals, and at 6'0" 200 pounds Collins will be a premier safety during his college football days.
Landon Collins recorded 102 tackles and four interceptions during his junior season at Dutchtown High School in Louisiana.
The Florida Gators are in Collins top six schools, a long with Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Miami and Tennessee.
According to Rivals, Alabama and LSU have a lead over the other four schools, but the Gators are not out of the question--though they do need to make up some ground here soon.
5. Darius Hamilton
5 of 5
Darius Hamilton is the No. 1 ranked defensive end according to rivals, and number four rated defensive end according to Scout; either way, Hamilton is one of the most sough after prospects in the Nation.
Hamilton recorded 63 tackles, and over 13.5 sacks during his junior campaign at Don Bosco Prep School in Ramsey New Jersey.
Hamilton has all of the physical tools in the world to be an elite defensive end in college and at 6'4"245 pounds he's only going to get stronger.
The Florida Gators are in the mix for the big defensive end (so are about 25 other schools), but his hometown school of Rutgers appears to be the favorite to land Hamilton as of now.
