Manchester City Transfer Rumors: Putting an End to Carlos Tevez Speculation

Tim KeeneyJun 14, 2011

Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez was recently quoted as saying that he hates the city of Manchester and plans to never go back.

"I'm never going back to Manchester," said Tevez in an interview with Susanna Gimenez. "I don't have any new friends [there]."

This, of course, has opened up endless amounts of speculation. Where will Tevez go? How much will he cost? How will City replace him?

After that Daily Mirror report, Tevez was as good as gone.

Well, hold on just a second. While the comments that Tevez made are certainly incriminating, it's far from a definite sign that he's leaving. Those quotes appear to have been taken just a little out of context.

The fact of the matter is this: Tevez never says he's ready to stop playing soccer for the Blues. He never says anything bad about head man Roberto Mancini or any of his teammates. He never gives any indication that he's ready to transfer.

My guess is that his words were twisted around. When he stated that he would never go back to Manchester, Tevez probably meant in the future. You know, after that huge contract he signed has expired. A contract, by the way, that is good for three more years. Just the first of many reasons that Man City is unlikely to sell their star.

Tevez's apparent unhappiness with City has led to him being linked with clubs all around the world, including La Liga's Real Madrid. Those rumors have died down as of late, but they're another example of a major overreaction to one misconstrued interview.

Realistically, there's no reason for City to sell Tevez. They have a plethora of strikers ready to replace him, but none are up to his form. Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli are on their way up, but neither is as consistent as Tevez. Right now, there would just be no realistic way for City to fully replace a striker like Carlos Tevez. He was the constant force at the front of their offense this season, and they would take a major hit without him.

Is Tevez a class act? Absolutely not. He's almost the complete opposite of fellow Man City Argentine Pablo Zabaleta.

Did he most likely lose some fans after his comments? Absolutely.

Will that affect his play on the field? Probably not.

It won't be the first time that a star player isn't 100 percent happy. Fans may not like it, but the evidence of Tevez leaving is just too circumstantial. It just doesn't seem like a sale is going to happen.

My advice to Tevez is this: you can't control the weather or the fact that there are no beaches in Manchester. So stop complaining about it, because it's doing nothing but hurting you.

Prepare to see Tevez in the light blue kit again next season.
