Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Gunners Prepare Offer for Shakhtar's Willian

Reports from talkSPORT suggest that Arsenal have put together a package to try and tempt Shakhtar Donetsk into selling Brazilian forward Willian. Arsenal are preparing to offer £12 million and disgruntled midfielder Denilson.

The Gunners are said to desire an answer within a week.

Willian would be an interesting signing for Arsenal. The former Corinthians starlet has developed into a player of real promise during his time at Shakhtar. At his best when attacking from wide areas, Willian is a composed finisher. Ostensibly a left sided player, Willian's smart movement makes him dangerous drifting in from either flank.

The young Brazilian plays with a freedom that makes it hard for opposition defenses to pick him up and man mark him out of a game. His fluid style could benefit an often static Arsenal front line. 

On too many occasions, Arsenal have only one target in the opposition box, unnecessarily reducing their goal threat against more disciplined defenses.

A player plus cash exchange would favour Denilson. The midfielder has failed to live up to his initial promise. Poorly suited to the defensive role, he is often asked to perform, Denilson urgently needs a fresh start.

Any pursuit for Willian naturally brings up further questions about the future of Samir Nasri. Willian could be viewed as a natural replacement for Nasri's left attacking midfield berth. The Shakhtar schemer could also be deployed in a more traditional forward role. Here, he would provide valuable cover if injuries hit. 

Willian would also be a useful deputy in the event that Arsene Wenger lands another of his prime targets, Gervinho, who will be on international duty in the new year.

Offloading a struggling player as a means to secure a rising talent, would be an ideal scenario for the Arsenal manager. 

Willian's arrival could help to generate excitement amongst an anxious fanbase.
