Miami Hurricanes Football: Players That Will Be Drafted in the 2012 Draft
The Miami Hurricanes produce some of the best NFL players in the league, don't believe me?
Check out the 11 ex-Hurricane players from last year's Pro Bowl.
Miami may not have the honors of having the most players drafted since 2000, second behind Ohio State, but the players that are drafted end up being great NFL players as well.
No other team in college football can contend with the amount of NFL league leaders that Miami has.
Since 2004 an ex-Hurricane player has led the league in interceptions, receiving, tackles, or punt/kick returns.
There are a many more Hurricane players that will be playing on Sunday's next year, here are my predictions.
(Note: I am not predicting Lamar Miller leaving the program yet, although he would be eligible. Seantrel Henderson would not be eligible yet, as the NFL draft rules require the player to be three years removed from high school)
Travis Benjamin- WR/PR/KR
1 of 8Year: Senior
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 175 lbs
Projected draft pick: fifth/sixth round
Notes: This one is a tough one. The only bad thing going for Travis Benjamin is his size. I believe he will still be drafted as a special teams player as he is very elusive and a dangerous man to kick to.
Ramon Buchanan- LB
2 of 8
Year: Senior
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 225 lbs
Projected draft pick: 4th round
Notes: Ramon Buchanan has the ability and field vision to become a much higher draft pick depending on what he does this year for the Hurricanes.
As it sits right now, I believe he will be a fourth-round pick. He has a great motor and knows how to tackle, he just needs to get better and shedding the blockers.
Tyler Horn- OL
3 of 8
Year: Senior
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 305 lbs
Projected draft pick: third round
Notes: If Tyler Horn can improve on his strength there is a possibility he moves up from the third round, but as it sits right now, this is where I would project Horn.
I have read some publications that have him in the late first round, which to me is a little high.
Vaughn Telamaque- S
4 of 8Year: Junior
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 200 lbs
Projected draft pick: second round
Notes: Vaughn Telamaque is my surprise of the year. I really believe he is going to be so good that he will be a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in the country.
He had a tremendous year last year leading the team in interceptions with three and should double that number this year.
There are always needs for a good safety in the NFL and Miami has a huge track record for producing some of the best.
Sean Spence- LB
5 of 8Year: Senior
Height: 6'
Weight: 224 lbs
Projected draft pick: second round
Notes: Sean Spence had a tremendous junior year last year for the Hurricanes getting 111 tackles (5th in the ACC) and lead the team in tackles for loss with 16.
His size is the only concern according to most NFL scouts, but there was also a guy named Ray Lewis who was told he was too short to play linebacker in the NFL.
Brandon Washington- OL
6 of 8
Year: Junior
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 320 lbs
Projected draft pick: First/second round in the 2012 draft.
Notes: Brandon Washington is a man amongst boys on the offensive line for the Hurricanes. He has tremendous size, strength, and agility to make him one of the best offensive lineman available in next year's draft.
If he has a solid year, he will be drafted in the second round, but if he excels, as many are predicting, he will be a first-round draft pick.
That is if he leaves early, which I believe he will.
Ray Ray Armstrong- S
7 of 8Year: Junior
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 220 lbs
Projected draft pick: First round
Notes: There isn't a more talked about safety in the country right now then Ray Ray Armstrong. After a great season last year, third on the team in tackles with 79, he is expected to have his biggest year yet.
In ESPN's 2012 mock draft they have Armstrong listed at the 20th overall pick and I agree. There aren't many safeties across the country that are a physical specimen like Armstrong.
Marcus Forston- DL
8 of 8
Year: Junior
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 300 lbs
Projected draft pick: First round
Notes: I truly believe Forston will be a beast at Miami this year. He has already showed signs of greatness in his freshman year when he was nominated on multiple Freshman All-American teams across the country.
With his size and strength and the need for interior defensive linemen in the NFL, I believe he will forgo his senior season and be the first Hurricane player to be drafted in the first round since 2008.
ESPN thinks he will go to the New England Patriots in the first round as well.
