College Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Big Schools Doing a Terrible Job so Far
So far in recruiting, we have seen some schools off to a fantastic start. They're gobbling up commits, seeing players come on unofficial spring visits and are being seriously considered by some of the nation's best.
Then there are some schools that, while they do have commits, just seem to be off to a very, very slow and bad start to 2012 recruiting. They're not really in anyone's top list and they commits they have are low ranked or even not ranked prospects.
Here are five schools that fit the mold of the latter.
Iowa State

Paul Rhoads is a darn good coach and even got the Cyclones to a few upset wins in 2010. The program is on the come and will be looking to make a move up the Big 12 standings in 2011.
Yet, it's a no go on the recruiting trail this year so far. Iowa State only has three commits, and the highest rated player in the class in just three stars. Two of the commits are QBs and the highest ranked of the two is just the 48th best QB in the country.
Let's go Cyclones!
Arizona

Arizona has been one of those programs the past few years where they have earned their respect on the field, but you are waiting for them to have a bit more consistency.
For 2012 recruiting, they seem to have little respect on the trail as the Wildcats have just four commits thus far and only two of their commits are rated a mere three stars.
Granted one of their pledges is TE Taylor McNamara, whom I think is a solid player, but I'm just not feeling Zona's start to recruiting this year.
Virginia

Virginia's recruiting class is going to get better in due time whenever four star DE/OLB Eli Harold commits to them over Florida and North Carolina. Yet, until then, the Wahoos make this list.
Mike London has seven commits aligned this year, but only two of those players are even three stars. The rest have zero stars and are not even ranked according to Scout.com.
Having seven pledges is a good thing, but having most of your class made up of low rated and non-ranked players is a bad thing.
Kansas State

One thing I've always noticed with Kansas State recruiting is that with Bill Snyder, the Wildcats seem to tap heavily into the JC ranks for the gist of their recruiting. No beef with that from me, just an observation.
But that's also why K-State never has been a sexy school in recruiting, as JC recruiting doesn't get as much attention as High School recruiting does. For 2012, Snyder and KSU have just three commitments and the highest rated player is just three stars.
It'll be interesting to see how Kansas State fares going forward this year on the trail.
Iowa

Iowa gets players that fit the tough, smart, hard working and coach-able mold in recruiting. They bring them on campus, develop 'em and coach 'em up. Simple and plain.
Yet, I'm not sure if they can't find any of those type of players right now and if this year's recruiting crop just isn't feeling the program, but in anyway you slice it, having just one commitment at this point is terrible.
Mitch Keppy is a 6'5", 280 pound OT, that has no stars nor ranking and is the lone Hawkeye pledge. Iowa needs to pick it up.
