College Football Predictions 2011: Predicting All 5 BCS Games

Connor KillorenJun 8, 2011

With the start of the college football season three months away, it is high noon for predictions.

Athlon Sports, Lindy's, Sporting News, and Phil Steele have all released their respective college football preview magazines, and each publication is sure to spur debate among the schools' fan bases.

A particularly popular topic for debate is that of which teams will ultimately participate in the five BCS games, including the National Championship.

Follow along as we predict which teams will be participating in these very profitable BCS games.

Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Oregon

What better way to start off these predictions than with the "Granddaddy of 'em all"? Though the Rose Bowl typically pits the Pac-10 Champion against the Big 10 Champion, last season's game featured an outsider, TCU, defeating Wisconsin.

The Badgers are a favorite to return to Pasadena after finding themselves ranked in many preseason top 10 rankings. Likely to represent the new Pac-12 are the Oregon Ducks.

Head coach Chip Kelly must find a way to replace three starters on the offensive line, which is never easy, but nonetheless he figures to have his squad in contention down the stretch.

This matchup pits the slow-down, grind-it-out attack of Wisconsin against the hyper-speed attack run by Oregon.

With the Ducks' defense spending a lot of time on the field, Wisconsin will have the upper hand.

Final score: Wisconsin 24, Oregon 16

Fiesta Bowl: Notre Dame vs. Boise State

Amid recent scandal, it was rumored that the Fiesta Bowl would no longer be a member of the BCS. However, the final decision was to allow the Fiesta Bowl to remain.

The game traditionally pits the Big 12 champion against an at-large team. However, this season's Fiesta Bowl will look much different, pitting at-large teams Notre Dame against Boise State.

The Irish return 9 of 11 starters on a defense that was one of the nation's best during the last four games of the 2010 season. Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the ball, Brian Kelly's squad only lost guard Chris Stewart and running back Robert Hughes.

On the other hand, Boise State figures to have another great season with the return of Heisman candidate quarterback Kellen Moore. Head coach Chris Petersen's offense will be tested with a new scheme under new offensive coordinator Brent Pease as well as the loss of receivers Titus Young and Austin Pettis.

The game will go down to the wire with the Fighting Irish bringing home the hardware.

Final score: Notre Dame 35, Boise State 31

Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. West Virginia

Typically the least-hyped of the BCS games due to its tie-in with the lackluster Big East, the Orange Bowl won't be much of a contest this season.

Florida State will make a run at the National Championship, but will come up short. Being crowned ACC Champions isn't too shabby of a consolation prize, though.

West Virginia figures to be the best team in the Big East once again, coming in to the game with a record of 8-4.

Florida State will take this one easily.

Final score: Florida State 49, West Virginia 14

LSU will be tested right off the bat, as they face off against Oregon at Cowboys Stadium in the first week of the season. And as the Tigers are returning a majority of their starters, the team figures to come out on top on September 3rd.

Playing in the SEC West is no small task, but many are picking LSU to come away as division champions.

On the other hand we have the TCU Horned Frogs, who are coming off a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin in January. Gary Patterson will have a new starting quarterback in Casey Pachall, but that won't be a hinderance.

Both teams are very talented, but LSU has that SEC speed on both sides of the football.

Final score: LSU 28, TCU 17

BCS National Championship: Oklahoma vs. Alabama

This game is for all the marbles.

The BCS National Championship Game.

The early favorites to square off in this game are the Oklahoma Sooners and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Bob Stoops' Oklahoma squad will run the table in the recently-depleted Big 12, with Landry Jones a potential Heisman winner.

Meanwhile, Nick Saban's Crimson Tide are the favorites to bring home the SEC title, though this will not be an easy task, with the likes of LSU and Arkansas acting as potential roadblocks.

This figures to be one of the most anticipated BCS National Championship games in recent memory.

Like most title games, it figures to be an extremely close game.

Final score: Oklahoma 31, Alabama 28
